| kirsib's Full Review: RCA TH1611 (1 GB) MP3 Player |
My 12-year-old son got this player as a Christmas present and I've been learning how it works today.
This player is very small, about a size of a lighter and operates with one AAA battery, battery life is about 35 hours according to my box. You need to take few minutes reading the instructions from the manual that automatically downloads as adobe file when you plug this device to your computer with flip-out USB connection. In a box you will get only very basic introduction so read the manual too!
Great thing about this little toy was the fact that there is no seperate CD, software comes straight from your player and is super easy to install before you start moving your songs to your player.
I was reading many reviews of people complaining that you cannot make your own playlists, or if you can, I did not figure out how yet, all the music goes under the genre they can be found or you can search for them by the artist or song title.
This is very basic player so no memorycard slots or even a clip to hook it anyway, this is a problem if you don't have pockets! I find earphones uncomfortable and it seems that your connection from earphones to your player causes static easily when you are moving, if you push it too far your music skips. I'm hoping better earphones will work more fluently with this player.
Songs download from your computer to this player super fast, maybe that is why it is called a flash player. In a front they say you can store up to 300 songs but if your songs are not super short I'm thinking 250 is more like it.
Sound quality is not bad (I don't think so anyway) for the price, I do wish the volume would be little louder, I was reading that other brands have option for louder volume than this particular product.
I do like the FM radio and search seems to be able to find all the stations we have available here and plays them very clear. This is nice because you can record songs from the radio straight to your player. Those songs are under radio playlist and are missing artist names.
You can download mp3 and WMA format files for this player, you can also move your recorded radio files to the computer if you want to. There is also a voice recorder so you can create voice memos (or songs!!) if you want to.
Display screen is clear and sharp and easy to understand even in this small player, after practising what button does what you will operate this player pretty easily, but you need to practice, those buttons have multifunctions and are not marked.
Overall this is $30 dollar player and I think it is a nice one for a younger teen who is learning how to operate these types of "toys" or even for a person who wants a basic radio and just some favorite songs to take to the road, if it breaks or you loose it, it will not be a disaster!
