crunch65's Full Review: RIM Curveâ„¢ 8320 Smartphone
All of the previous reviews of the phone are correct, however the don't cover ALL aspects of the phone. I paid 260$ for this phone for a 1 year trip to China. I worked great, and was alot of fun. Then I found out little annoyances. The T-mobile version actually doesn't have GPS, you have to buy a separate bluetooth module for it. You really have to get into the settings to actually use the VOIP, or try to surf the net through wifi, instead of the T-mobile network. The camera works great but does not make videos at all. (Actually now RIM offers a new firmware upgrade that allows this.
But these are all little annoyances, it is a decent package for the price, here is my main gripe. I ran 2 businesses off of this phone, obviously it was quite important to me. A month into my China trip (2 months after buying it) , one morning my phone just decides not to turn on. Yes, i tried everything. I'm not an idiot. I never dropped this phone. After quite alot of searching, I find this is a horrible common problem with the 8300 series Blackberrys. I contacted T-mobile and RIM. I asked for any help, ideas, or people that could help. They said they can not email me any software because I was in China. Fine. I asked them where can I ship my phone to be fixed. No reply. I emailed again. No reply. This phone (and the way I see it T-mobile and RIM )left me stranded in China with a broken phone, no contacts, no help. NO customer service. So I say this, if you can afford to lose your phone, or to go with out a phone unexpectedly for a week or so, and not have any camera, contacts, mp3's, then by all means get this phone. However if you are serious about business and need something reliable...get another phone.
