We Expected More Than Violence Out Of The Movie

My family could not wait to see Race To Witch Mountain but as with a lot of the updated movies this left me with a sour taste in my mouth. It took away some of what made the original so endearing and brought more violence and poor acting.
Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) is a cabby trying to make a living. He has a sorted past as a wheelman for robberies and is trying to keep himself clean and on the up and up. His old boss wants him back. So when two teenage seemingly normal kids get into his cab and want to go to the middle of no where his only concern is if they can pay or not.
However when they are on the road to there destination people start chasing them and trying to knock them off of the road. Jack thinks he has gotten the kids mixed up in the repercussions of his past and desides to stay with them and make sure they are okay when they get to the destination. Thats when all of the big trouble starts to happen.
When the kids tell him who and what they are Jack does not believe them until he is shown.Now he seeks out the help of Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino) to save the kids and get them back home.
The movie is filled with action and explosions. That is about it.
I was disappointed in the acting on the parts of both Johnson and Gugino. They came off as cartoonish in the way they overdid the scenes and there was no chemistry between them. Anna Sophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig did fair jobs as Seth and Sara, but nothing really stood out or grabbed my attention about any of the acting overall.
This was little more than a butchering of the original where they added extra violence and special effects. Only a handful of kids at the theater seemed to be mesmerized by the action and the rest looked bored. My daughter got antsy and she is almost always glued to her seat when we go to the movies.
This was a poor imitation of the original and made a mockery out of Johnson and Gugino with whom I generally enjoy watching. I suggest if you wish to put yourself through the torture of this movie you wait for it to come out on dvd. The action is not bad,but it is the same repetitive thing over and over and just becomes boring.
