| panaceatoo's Full Review: Radisson Airport Hotel Providence |
I stayed at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Providence, RI in December of 2008. I had an early morning flight out of PVI and didn't want to get up at 3am to make it to the airport in time coming from home.
I chose the Radisson Airport Hotel for their Park n' Fly program. You get 1 night's hotel stay (either at the beginning or end of your trip) plus up to 2 weeks of parking for $129 plus tax. (That was the price when I went. Of course, it could vary depending on the time of year.) Parking at the airport itself - even in the super-economoy lot - was $11/day. So it wasn't much more expensive to stay here and get the benefit of sleeping in before the flight.
When we arrived at the airport, we were quickly greeted at the desk and given the keys to our room. The layout of the hotel was somewhat strange in that there was only 1 set of elevators at the front, but an entire wing of rooms that ran out to the back of the hotel. This meant when we exited the elevator, we had to wind around conference rooms and hallways to eventually find our room. (I was OK with it, but my sense-of-direction-challenged husband had a hard time finding his way back to the room after going out for ice....)
The room was small but well appointed. It had a large king size bed with a Sleep Number mattress, so there was no complaining about the mattress being too hard or too soft (you could control that with the touch of a button). The in-room amenities were the standard shampoo, conditioner and soap - along with some mouthwash.
One thing that really surprised me was that there was no refrigerator in the room. I guess I've come to expect that at this point in hotel rooms. I have a medication that has to be refrigerated. Fortunately, a large ice bucket was provided, so I just kept my medication in there. I probably could've called the reception desk and asked about other arrangements, but it didn't seem worth it for 1 night.
After checking in and getting our bearings, we decided to head out for dinner. There were a few restaurants nearby (a Legal Seafood is right next to the hotel), but we decided to venture into Providence proper to look for other choices. Fortunately, the Radisson is very close to the highway (I-95), so we were able to hop right on and head up to the city center within 10-15 minutes.
We came back for the night and got a good night's rest. Even though it sits directly across from the airport, the hotel was very quiet. In the morning, our bill was under the door, so all we had to do was leave the keys in the room. We went down to the front desk to catch the shuttle to the airport and were told it would be coming soon.
After a short wait, it pulled up outside. The driver came and got our bags and brought us right to our terminal in less than 5 minutes.
When we arrived back a week later, we called the hotel from the courtesy phone next to the baggage claim. It took about 5 minutes for them to arrive to pick us up. This time, we had to carry our own bags on and off the van. The van dropped us off right at our car, which was parked in the back of the hotel. The car was in the same condition as we'd left it, so we hopped in and headed on our way.
Overall, I was very pleased with the quietness and cleanliness of the hotel, its convenience to the airport and the highway - and the speed with which we got to and from the airport. I would definitely stay here again.
