Good for family, worth the money???

Pros: great for families with younger children, soft towels, central area on island
Cons: worth the money???, not a true resort
The Bottom Line: Undecided. Enjoyed the stay for reasons other than the room itself. Service was flip/flop, but they were always friendly. Tough decision to make.

My family and I stayed at the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort during the last week of August 2004. My husband and I travel a great deal for work and we were looking forward to staying at the Radisson Kauai knowing that our previous stays at other Radisson hotels have been very good.
From all of our research, this was suppose to be a wonderful place for children with the sand pool and the playground near by.
However, we were disappointed from the beginning of our stay. Check in time for the Radisson Kauai is 3:00 PM. We had arrived early and were hoping to be able to check in, but our room was not yet available. This was understandable since we did not make arrangements in advance. The front desk did let us check in, but we were not allowed the keys to the room. My family and I returned shortly after 3:00 PM, but our room was still not available. We were told that it would only be another 5 – 10 minutes. 10 minutes later, our room was still not available and we were told it would be another 15 – 20 minutes. I asked if we could upgrade or have our room moved, but they said we were already in an Ocean View room and there were no others available. We waited another 20 minutes and still our room was not ready. At this point, I was getting extremely inpatient and so was my family. The front desk finally decided that the system must have been showing the room incorrectly and gave us the keys to the room. We finally got into the room 45 minutes after we showed up to receive the keys after 3:00 PM.
During the time we were waiting to receive the room keys, one of the front desk clerks did state she was going to the room to check on it herself. However, she never returned before we finally received the keys. I do not know what happened to her.
The room was clean and I was very impressed with the softness of the bath towels. We also enjoyed the good water pressure in the shower and the showerhead.
During our stay we received a fruit, cheese and wine basket which our friends ordered from the hotel to be sent to our room. We very much enjoyed the basket. However, it did not come with any utensils to eat the food with or a cork bottle opener to open the bottle of wine with.
Our room was located at the end of the hall in Building 1. Because of this, our room was always the last one to be serviced by house keeping. This was very inconvenient since we would leave in the morning, return early afternoon, and our room was still not serviced.
I used the spa facilities while we were staying at the Radisson Kauai. I very much enjoyed the faculty and the people who rendered the services. However, I was extremely disappointed and a bit embarrassed due to the lack of privacy while I was waiting for services to be rendered at the spa. There was absolutely no privacy from other guests who were going to and from the fitness center while I was waiting. I have been to many other spas at other hotels and I was appalled at the lack of privacy.
My family and I tremendously enjoyed the pools and grotto area. We especially enjoyed the sand pool for the kids. The nightly hula show and torch lighting ceremony was fun to watch. The Radisson Kauai grounds are beautiful and well maintained.
If you are looking for a place to stay with younger children, you will enjoy the sand pool and the close proximity to a wonderful playground just off the beach. Sorry, do not remember the name of the beach/playground. But it is just up the road from the hotel, literally, the next road heading north away from the airport.
However, due to the problems we encountered during our stay, we are undecided if we will stay at the Radisson Kauai again. We expected more from this hotel and it did not meet our expectations.
