Dakin's Large Raggedy Ann Doll is Charming Collectible

Cons: Yarn hair is starting to fray at the ends from so much love!
The Bottom Line: You'll be hard pressed to find any defects in this doll ~ she is the stuff that childhood memories are made of!

When my daughter turned 2 years old (and that was quite awhile back) I decided she needed an updated version of one of my favorite girlhood toys ~ a Raggedy Ann doll. Now, my Texan heart settled on a doll that is almost larger than life ~ a 25 inch Raggedy Ann who is perfect for a little girl in almost every way!
Let me describe this beauty, as unfortunately the photo is missing from the database. Dakin/Applause has created a quality stuffed doll which is a treasure to behold. She is sewn from fabric and stuffed with synthetic batting. Her body is one flesh-colored form, with bendable peach-toned arms and legs which are sewn from red and white striped fabric and black, stuffed shoes. My daughter's Raggedy Ann has a red heart with "85th Birthday" embroidered on the shoe. When you lift her blue, flowered and dotted dress, you find another red heart embroidered on her chest ~ which fittingly says "I Love You" inside. Raggedy Ann's long-sleeved, smock dress has a sweet white ruffled collar, and the classic White apron which has "Raggedy Ann" embroidered in red cursive lettering on the bottom.
Her doll face is cute as a button, with the traditional oval-shaped head, sewn from the same light-peach fabric. Her black eyebrows, simple smile and triangular lashes are embroidered. The whites of her eyes are circles embroidered with a white satin stitch, with black buttons firmly attached in the center for pupils. A soft, red triangle adorns her face for a nose. Raggedy Ann's hair is her crowning glory ~ it's a full shock of red, twisted acrylic yarn that frames her face attractively. After about 8 years of cuddling, the doll's hair is starting to look a little frayed and the yarns have untwisted a bit. This is what I would consider normal wear and tear, and I never expected her to remain in pristine condition. Finally, Raggedy Ann has a hint of blush on her cheeks, which is charming and not overdone.
Overall, this edition of Raggedy Ann is very well constructed and suitable for a child who has passed the toy-mouthing stage. I wouldn't want her to be chewed on because it would probably fray the doll's hair quickly. In my opinion, this doll is meant to be loved and cuddled. She is the perfect size for a girl to have as a companion when she's trying to fall asleep. I always take her off the shelf and hand her to my daughter when she's in need of comforting or reassurance ~ even at 9 years old!
This 25" Raggedy Ann also sits well when propped against a shelf or wall. Often, she sits on the shelf with other dolls or stuffed animals in her lap. She would be a welcome guest at any tea party, in a doll stroller or kids' model shopping cart. She doesn't have any mechanical or talking features to break, and doesn't require batteries. She is truly a Classic creation, and I almost wish I had one for myself :)
For any mother or grandmom (aunt/cousin/niece) who is looking to relive a childhood memory for a beloved little girl, I believe you can't go wrong with the Dakin/Applause 25" Raggedy Ann Doll. She captures the spirit of my cherished (but much smaller) childhood Raggedy Ann, but is much better made and should still be in good condition for a future granddaughter, God willing!
** A note about buying this doll: unfortunately, it may be currently out of stock. I have not been able to verify if it was manufactured after 2005. I don't know much about collecting dolls & toys, but this one is a keeper if you come across it! **
