| Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Raid Ant Baits |
Raid is the foremost name in pest control, with products designed to kill ants roaches, wasps, and a whole host of other annoying creatures. Manufactured by S.C. Johnson & Son of Racine, Wisconsin, the Raid family includes several of the best selling pest control products on the market.
Most of the products produced by raid are spray- type poisons, designed to kill bugs on contact. But there are a few that rely on other ways to destroy insects and do not involve pressing the nozzle on a can. And one of them is also the subject of this review. Its Raid Ant Baits, a different way to approach the problem of eliminating ants from your household.
Directions for Use:
Raid Ant Baits are small, hexagonally- shaped baited traps that have a raised section on top with six entrances. Each trap measures about 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) in width and only about .5 inches (1.2 cm) in height. A standard package contains four traps.
Raid recommends placing all four traps strategically around the house in places where you commonly see ants. In most instances, this would be the kitchen since ants are always looking for food to take back to the colony. Traps should be placed where they are out of reach of children and small pets and where they will not come in contact with edible food, dishes, or anything else that could cause the poison to be accidentally consumed.
If ingestion occurs, S.C. Johnson recommends calling your local poison control center immediately. If the product gets on your clothing or skin, you should wash right away. The poison can be harmful if it penetrates the skin.
Active Ingredients:
Raid ant baits contain .5% Sulfuramid and 99.5% inert ingredients. They also contain the active ingredient Abamectin, a toxin that keeps killing ants continuously. The ants enter the chamber, eat the toxin, and then carry it back to the colony where the other ants partake in the wondrous feast, leading them all to an early grave. The toxin in the bait traps will last for about three months before the traps need to be replaced.

Final Thoughts:
Raid Ant Baits provide a very good solution to the problem of household ants. I noticed several dozen ants in my kitchen one day, swarming around some crumbs of food and having a grand old time. I killed the ones I could see with spray, but I knew this was only the beginning. You have to concentrate on wiping out the entire colony if you really want to solve your ant problem. And Raid Ant Baits help you to accomplish the task.
Each bait trap is small, white in color, and looks like an igloo. There are four baits per package, which retails for about $4. The way they work is simple: Ants walk inside the bait traps through one of the openings. Their eyes grow wide with excitement when they see all this delicious food. This will really please the queen, they say to themselves. Just wait til she sees all the great food we are going to bring her. The workers carry the food back to the nest and in a short time, wipe out the entire colony. In my experience, I didnt see any more ants just two days after placing the bait traps. The entire nation of ants had been slaughtered. The war was won!
You can place Raid Ant Baits on countertops and other places where you visibly see ants. But I prefer to place them where I dont have to look at them. That usually means placing the baits under the kitchen sink (inside the cabinet); behind the stove and other appliances; and behind/between shelves and cabinets. There is nothing else to do. The ants will take care of the job when they enter the bait traps and carry the food back to the nest.
Unlike sprays, there is no smell or mess with these bait traps. Some ants are gluttons and end up dying a short time after walking out of the bait traps- before they can crawl back under the floor (or outside, or wherever) and take the food back to the nest. If this happens, you will have a little bit of cleaning up to do. But for the most part, the ants themselves keep the process clean and simple. They enter the bait trap, collect food, walk out and proceed back to the colony where they will (hopefully) wipe out all the other ants when they share their toxic morsels with their friends and families. There is no cleanup necessary, except to throw away the bait traps after three months.
These traps need to be placed where kids and pets cannot get their hands or paws on them. Its true that they are enclosed, which helps to minimize the possibilities of poisoning, but there is no reason to take unnecessary chances. I place mine behind the refrigerator and between the refrigerator and counter, where my dog in unable to reach them. When I placed them the first time I used them, I suspected that my dog would try to grab them and run around with them in his mouth, like a toy. Sure enough, he was right there, sticking his paws between the refrigerator and counter, trying to pull the cute little igloos toward him so he could play. I had to push them all the way back, where his paws had no chance of reaching.
Raid Ant Baits are an excellent product for controlling these annoying, six- legged insects that can invade ones home at almost any time without warning. Sprays are nice for killing the ants that you can visibly see. But for long- lasting results, Raid Ant Baits are a godsend. Just a couple of days, and all of those tiny, annoying ants were eliminated from my kitchen. This product works and continues to work for a long time, making Raid Ant Baits one of the best products I have ever used from this company. Theres no smell, no mess, and they are guaranteed to work, or your money back!
