Pros: Excellent Residual Killing Power! Kills Cockroaches and Crickets dead within Seconds!
Cons: Slight Overbearing Odor. Can be an expensive maintenance treatment.
Living one mile from the beach has its advantages. We do not have the temperature extremes like folks more inland, we have nice cool breezes coming off the ocean and finally fresh air! But wait a minute there are disadvantages, namely, cockroaches and crickets. It seems I am always fighting the endless war of fighting pests such as the cockroaches, crickets and spiders.
I have been experimenting with all types of insecticides that do not harm the environment as well as does not provide a hazard to children or the elderly.
Since I frequent Home Depot almost every weekend, I bought a can Raid Ant & Roach for my garage.
WHAT IT ADVERTISES
Kills on contact! I can truly say this product does kill on contact so if you are a lady who is deathly afraid of cockroaches, spiders, crickets and silverfish, this product is for you! The product has a fresh scent to it but to some this may be a little overbearing.
HOW TO USE THE PRODUCT
Using the product is simple and straight forward. Shake the can well and spray directly in cracks and crevices where these little buggers live. In the kitchen make sure you direct the spray behind the sink behind the stove and refrigerator. I also spray the outside of door jams, window and any area where these insect can make their entrance into your home.
The trigger is very easy to depress and the spray is directed in front of you in a manner that wont allow the spray to hit you.
Saturate the area you are treating and make sure you spray in a well ventilated area away from children and pets.
Do not spray on asphalt, tile, rubber or plastic materials as it may cause discoloring.
Keep this product away from children. If this product should be ingested, call your local poison control center immediately for further directions. Do not use near food or any food preparation areas.
If you should get this insecticide on your skin, wash thoroughly. It says it is an irritant but I have accidentally sprayed this insecticide on myself but suffered no ill effect, however, for people who are sensitive, do not spray when it is windy.
As with all hazardous chemicals, store this product away from your children. Make sure children cannot reach it by putting it preferably in a locked cabinet. You might say it is inconvenient to keep it hidden when you want to use it now! But once you have your insect problem under control you can spot treat your home if you see one cockroach or ant.
MY EXPERIENCE USING RAID!
I have used this product for well over 20 years fighting cockroaches and ants. To fight cockroaches and ants you have to learn their behavior and what attracts them to your home. More often than not, cockroaches and ants are attracted to your home because you have plenty of food for them. When you eat things such as breads or cakes, or even drop food on your carpeting; make sure you vacuum up the crumbs. Cockroaches can hone in on even the tiniest food particle. To them this is a feast!
Cockroaches generally hug the walls as they travel throughout your home. They like to have something touching their upper and lower bodies such as in a crevice. If you see a pair of cockroaches roaming around your home, this means you may have up to 300 cockroaches inside your walls. If you examine one of those cockroaches and they appear quite large at the tail end, it could mean the roach is carrying an egg sack. That egg sack can contain up to 100 eggs. Female cockroaches are larger than the males.
Your cockroach show will not end just with one spraying of Raid. You must continue to use Raid continually for several months to rid yourself of this problem. You do not know how many eggs this cockroach has laid. This is going to be an ongoing maintenance habit you have to keep up. Your residual spraying will kill any babies that are produced.
Ants are another story. Have you ever flooded an ant nest? They will swarm out carrying their larva searching for a new dryer area to reside. If you should spill anything with sugar in it, wipe it up immediately. Ants can find even the tiniest residue of sugary substances. Once one ant finds that drop of tasty liquid, it will send out a notice that there is food nearby and soon you will see that familiar line of ants.
Follow this line of ants to wherever they originate from. Get the Raid and fully saturate the any mound. You may have to follow the ant trail a long distance but more likely their nest is just outside your door near a spot where water is available. This is usually somewhere near your water faucet or a place where you water regularly. Fix any leaky faucet and stop their free water hand out.
DID THE PRODUCT WORK?
Yes, Raid Ant and Roach Killer is an effective tool to combat these pests. But the only short fall I see is that it lasts only about 4 weeks before you have to treat your home or yard again.
I do recommend this product as a residual treatment but remember you have to maintain this control. Regular vacuuming, wiping down of counter tops and wiping up any spillage are very crucial in your fight against these pests. If not, you are going to fight an unending battle.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU HAVE A REALLY, REALLY BIG PROBLEM?
Several years ago I had a major infestation of cockroaches and crickets mainly due to the remodeling of kitchens and new pools being built in my neighborhood. To compound things, people were also fumigating their homes for termites. This causes the cockroaches and ants to flee looking for a better place to live. They will come running to your home to establish their little colony!
If your problem is massive, I would recommend you either fumigate the entire home or call your local pest control agent to assist you with the problem.
