Raid Flea Killer....It Eventually Kills the Fleas
Written: Jun 01 '01
Pros:Pleasant scent, effectively kills the fleas....
Cons:....but only after at least two applications.
The Bottom Line: Raid Flea Killer is the best flea control I have used, although it does take more than one application for best results.
I have two cats, and a dog. They all are both indoor and outdoor animals, so I can certainly expect to have a problem with fleas. I have taken them all to our veterinarian for both Advantage and Frontline flea control, but every time, the fleas would be back within a week. I have tried the flea powders and sprays that you can buy at the supermarket with similar results. Recently, I discovered Raid Flea Killer, and decided to give it a try.
Directions For Use
I have discovered that, for the best results, you should thoroughly vacuum all carpets, and either wash or replace your pet's bedding materials. The most important places to spray are around baseboards, wall cracks, windows, door frames, carpets, and of course, your pet's sleeping quarters. Fresh, clean bedding should be put back in your pet's sleeping quarters once the spray has dried.
Raid Flea Killer can also be sprayed directly on your dog to control both fleas and ticks. The directions say to hold the can 10 to 12 inches away from the dog, and lightly dampen the fur up to the head, and to use your fingers to apply the spray around the eyes, mouth and ears. Avoid spraying open wounds and the genital area on the dog. It also states that this product should not be sprayed on puppies younger than six weeks old.
I have not yet tried spraying Raid Flea Killer on my dog, because I am concerned about the possible effects it could have on her, should she ingest any of it. I am going to consult my veterinarian before trying this, and suggest that everyone else do the same. I will update this if and when I find out for sure this is safe to do.
The Results?
I vacuumed my carpets, and washed my pet's bedding. I used the spray in all the places that were suggested in the instructions. While I saw a drastic reduction in the number of fleas, quite a few still remained the next day. I applied a second application, and so far, I haven't seen anymore fleas. Hopefully, I won't see anymore.
Cautions
This product is harmful if absorbed through the skin. If you should get any on you, you should wash it off immediately with lots of soap and water.
Fish aquariums should be turned off and covered before spraying.
Remove plants and birds from rooms before spraying.
I would definitely recommend Raid Flea Killer to anyone with a flea problem. While it does take more than one application for best results, it is the best flea control I have found yet.
