Pros: Very effective in the right places.
Cons: Protective gear please.
This review is a follow up to my Raid MAX BUG Barrier Starter ......Strong enough to kill you !!!. I bought a refill insert to do the outside of Brutus’s dog pen and a couple other places that were high traffic for insects. There in a yellow screw on cap just under the sprayer that has to be put on by a machine, because I needed a pair of Channel Lock Pliers to get cap unscrewed and then the whole sprayer comes off. Like most spray guns as you’re opening it you pull out the sprayer feeder inside the bottle. With the new style bottles on the refills the feeder is capped at top so all you have to do is screw down the sprayer. Just slide the Sprayer on top of the refill cap and it punctures a hole in where the fluid comes out. I’ve already have found a couple ticks on my guys so I literally shaved the grass next to nothing on the outside perimeter of Brutus’s domain four feet wide and used 2 refill bottles doing so. I sprayed at dusk so the moisture from the early morning dew would settle it in the Earth slowly. Since deltamethrin is a neurotoxin it attacks the nervous system, I strongly advise using a mouth respirator and gloves when using this product. Deltamethrin is from the Pyrethroid family of synthetic insect killers.
I am very happy with this product, it’s been over 3 weeks and I haven’t had to sweep any spider webs off my corners in my sheds or outside at the doors or windows. My personal opinion on this product is that it’s like all the others, it’s good for a couple months and then you need to re-apply. Most of the insect killers produced by these companies are for city homes or suburban residents where bugs are at a minimum. Get into the rural country side is where there is a abundance of bugs all year round. The smell is not that strong, but you don’t want to get that close to smell it either. You want to spray about a foot away from into the grass to get the best protection.
Raid Barrier Spray guarantees that it will kill, houseflies, gnats, mosquitoes, small flying moths, centipedes, ground beetles, pillbugs, sowbugs, scorpions, ticks, spiders, ants, clover mites, cockroaches including asian cockroaches, centipedes, crickets, mole crickets, waterbugs and silverfish. Please do not to use around creeks or any causeways like to the Chesapeake Bay because it is so potent to go that far and even kill fish eggs. Experiments on cattle and wild wolves caused muscular strokes 36 hours after spraying the ground around them. So I would not recommend this product if you have outside dogs or cats unless you wait 48 to 72 hours after spraying or it has rained enough to penetrate your property grounds. I have to look things up like this because if I came to your home and sprayed it and you Foo Foo the poodle died on me that would be my liability, so I have to have this knowledge in my head or at least in my chemical safety book. Active Ingredients, Deltamethrin (0.03%) Inactive Ingredients, Other Ingredients (99.97%).
Overall you can’t beat the price for the refill at $4.99, so at the initial start you paid $3.00 for the battery operated sprayer. Just remember bugs are always on the move and after a few months that barrier wall will weaken. You can also blame the elements of the Earth, too much rain, too much sun and most of all how much traffic is there where you sprayed at. The happy medium is you knocked them dead the first time, so if you have to spray again a few months later they’ll be knocked down again…
