| susieq112's Full Review: Ramada Inn Pocatello |
After our adventures in Yellowstone we headed south toward Utah. On our way we ran into an accommodation wall when we couldnt find a hotel within hundreds of miles in Idaho. We had treaded into very busy territory because of childrens sports of all things. A Fairfield in a northern town pointed out the Ramada Inn in Pocatello still had openings
We werent terrible excited about the name, but elected to make reservations so we would have a room by the time we arrived in Pocatello.
Pulling up to the Ramada Inn at Pocatello, the hotel is obviously an older hotel and their sign announced New Beds largely enough that no one could miss it. The hotel is separated into a smoking side and a non-smoking side, but the entire hotel seems to have a stench to it, more so in the halls of the smoking rooms, but they have a freshness issue here period.
AMENITIES
Business Center was open from 7A to 10P and the hotel also offered fax services.
Dining, two restaurants are located in the hotel, one for breakfast service, The Sidewalk Café, is open from 5:30A to 9:30A. They offer a $1.99 breakfast, the hotel does not offer a free breakfast. The other restaurant is Sicilys Spirits & Spaghetti, open from 5P to 10P, they also offer room service, but I found their prices to be quite expensive.
Free High Speed Wireless Internet
Laundry Facilities
Hot Tub, Sauna & Fitness Room, all open 24 hours a day
Seasonal Outdoor Swimming Pool is open from 6A to 11P
Vending was only available on the first floor of the hotels (they have two floors and only steps). Ice machines and soda machines were available on both sides of the hotel, but the only snack machine available was on the opposing side of the hotel in the smoking halls and the machine didnt even work.
The hotel has a Noon check out time and also accepts pets with a $20 deposit.
OUR ROOM
Our room was fairly standard, it featured an open closet in the entry way with hangers, an ironing board and iron. The bathroom was to the opposite side of the entry, it had a full bath with shower and a large sink with vanity and toilet.
Overall the bathroom at this Ramada Inn was very clean, well-maintained and looked good. The shower head in the bathtub was a bit short with me just fitting under it at 5 foot 5 inches. With that exception the bathroom itself was good, but the maid left only one wash cloth in the whole room. We called down to the front desk for more, but it took well over thirty minutes to receive them.
The main part of the room had two queen size bed that were very comfortable and obviously new. However the linens obviously were not. The fitted sheets barely fit over the top of the mattresses, much less covered them and the pillows had an awful stench.
Between the beds was a small bed side table with a phone and alarm clock. Opposing the beds was a long, low, two drawer dresser with a TV on top. A small table with two chairs and a floor lamp set to the left of the dresser, along with a small refrigerator and a microwave stacked up. The funny thing about this arrangement was the placement of the lamp. When I started to move furniture around to cover up loose wires and hide outlets from my one year old I found a huge hole in the carpet just under the base of the floor lamp, I honestly couldnt help but laugh, but the problem is fixable, they shouldnt hide it. The microwave and refrigerator were obviously newer and worked well.
Cleanliness in the room was mediocre, if that. There was a lot of dirt on the floor in the corners and to the sides of furniture where a vacuum wouldnt fit. The dresser top was very dirty and even had grime caked on top of it. The room also featured a large window that desperately needed to be cleaned.
The television line listed in the room offers a lot of channels, but not all of them are programmed into the TV.
The most alarming thing I found wrong with the room was the fact that the fire alarm was missing. I just happened to see that the main unit of the fire alarm had been removed and the base was the only thing left.
OVERALL
Overall I cannot say that I was disappointed by the Ramada Inn, but I was reassured that my belief that Ramadas are no place to stay, is nothing short of true. The smell of the hotel is just not necessary, many other hotels have smoking rooms and dont have the problem of the hallways smelling or maybe its something else that smells - I dont know.
The only positive things about our room was that the bathroom was clean and the beds were comfortable, but they were new, so that wasnt to hard to accomplish. Other than that the room just wasnt clean or well maintained.
Overall I do not recommend the Ramada Inn in Pocatello, ID and as a rule I say stay away from Ramadas period.
