| Susie-34668's Full Review: Ramada Inn - Treasure Island |
This hotel has now been knocked down for private condo's to be built. What a shame.
Susie. November, 2004.
The Ramada Inn, at Treasure Island, is 2 buildings from our timeshare. Len and I stayed in this hotel, prior to purchasing the timeshare. Every year we go to breakfast at this great hotel.
This year Len's daughter and her husband decided to stay at the Ramada, towards the end of our 8 day vacation. We told them of the great food in the restaurant, I remembered the wonderful ham steaks served at breakfast.
The second day we were hungry, late afternoon, and decided to have dinner at the Ramada. We passed the Holiday Inn, that do wonderful meals. Their restaurant is situated on the 9th floor, with a fantastic sunset view. We went in via the side door of the Ramada, which is the Ciao restaurant.
There was only one table taken, and we had to wait to be seated. When we got the menu it was one sheet of white paper with 5 items, and one of those was crossed out. Len was able to order off the lunch menu, and I asked it they could make me a chef salad. We asked what the problem was, and were told that a new menu was being printed, and that breakfast was still excellent.
2 days later we wandered over to the Ramada for breakfast. Had to call out for the waitress to seat us. She was in the kitchen. The breakfast menu had changed. I asked about the wonderful ham, and she told me they don't serve ham steaks anymore. To cut a very long story short we ordered, the potatoes and toast were cold. Had to be sent back. By the time it came back the eggs were cold. The servers switched while I was still drinking coffee. The new server was honest with us and said that the reason for the limited menu, was because they hardly had any food in the kitchen. The owners of the restaurant lived up north, and business was not being taken care of. She gave me the business card of the General Manager for the hotel. I e-mailed me upon my return, and after 2 weeks I have not had a reply.
From here we wanted to check out the Ramada itself, for Len's family. We walked outside to a beautiful large swimming pool. A great little child's play area, with slide etc. By the side was a 'tiki' bar. All was very bright and clean. We checked the wooden walkway to the beach, which was in good repair.
From here we walked back into the hotel. The lobby being very Floridian. Bold, bright, and extremely colorful.
On the Friday Len's family phoned to say they had arrived. After eating out with them, at one of the dozens of fine restaurants in the area, we headed back to the Ramada. Plenty of parking in the front of the building. We went though the lobby and to the elevator. No problem getting the 9 of us in at one time. The room was up on the top floor, which was the 4th floor.
The room was fairly spacious, with a king size bed. Large windows overlooked the beach. A really pretty flower light to the side of the windows. Basically the room and en-suite bathroom were a good quality. Thumbs up for this Ramada.
So would I recommend it.
Yes, the hotel is one of the better ones on Treasure Island beach. There seems to be more small motels and timeshares than hotels, on this stretch of the beach. Recently I have seen promotions for this Ramada, for Florida residents, at just $59. Not sure how long that will apply as our snow-birds will be traveling south very soon.
Just don't go into the restaurant until things get sorted out. There is a great little restaurant, Foxy's Cafe, at 160 107 Ave, (Central Ave) Treasure Island. You can drive to it, or walk it in about 10-15 minutes. Another great place to watch a sunset is Caddy's Waterfront beach BBQ & Seafood restaurant. All the locals eat here @ 9000 W. Gulf Blvd.
Final thoughts.
Len's family loved staying at Treasure Island and were pleased with the hotel. I wanted to write about this one as I have stayed in it several times. Been in it every year to eat, or for entertainment at night. This year we opted out for the D.J., and went to the Bilmar for the Dixieland Jazz, and the Big Bands.

Treasure Island is located south of Clearwater, and just north of St. Petersburg. Actually only 3 miles from St. Pete's. It is one of the best beaches I have stayed at, so why not treat yourself.
Thank you for sharing my travel experiences with me. Want more, you can always e-mail me.
