Sounds a little too.... boisterous for my personal taste, but I can see how most people would find it to be a lot of fun. Heh, I liked the little War and Peace analogy by the way. Very nice review.

I'm a little jealous. It took such a long time to get there (and get home), that I have not been able to return.
Thanks for reading and commenting!

That's it, exactly!
It's one of those situations where most of the talking is being done in Russian, and I just nod and smile and take another drink.

I, for one, have never seen so many bottles of liquor on the table-- mostly vodka, but everything was serious HARD liquor.
I'm going to be in this friend's wedding out in California later this year. I am eagerly anticipating-- yet slightly dreading-- the scene at both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding itself!!
Must get my liver in shape now...

Sounds familiar.... (Reply to this comment)

I went to a similar place (I forget the name, but there is a plethora of Russian restaurants there) about 3 years ago in Brighton Beach for my boss's 30th birthday. Your review encapsulates the atmosphere there perfectly :) Didn't you feel like you were in the Russian version of "Godfather?"
They certainly know how to eat and be merry... and the show - it was loads of fun!

Never been to "Rasputin".... (Reply to this comment)
by NFP
...but went to "Odessa" when we lived in Brooklyn in the mid 80s, and to this day some 14 years later, I'm still digesting some of that food and drink. Maybe the heaviest meal of my life, the better to soak up the booze, I guess. The biggest problem -- since we drove -- was getting home without wrapping ourselves around a phone pole.
Sounds like the experience at Rasputin was similar in terms of fun.
Good post.

I posted a rather lengthy reply to your comment on my review of the place. I wasn't sure how it works with replies, so I wanted to let you know that it's there.
The short of it- Your review was awesome- I now see the place in a whole new light.
Keep writing. Looking forward to more NY reviews.

What an interesting concept! (Reply to this comment)

I can't really imagine how the initial conversation went when they discussed this idea...but it sounds like it's a success. =) Sounds like it'd be a fun place for a group of old friends to go and be outrageous (with all that vodka what else can you do?).
By the way, I actually don't IM at all (never even tried it). Not sure if it's because I don't like others knowing when I'm online and tracking me down, or if I'm just too busy epinionating to go sign up! =)
I already told O she has to introduce us when you come out to CA in May! She sounded a little surprised to hear we're both still epinionating....=)
Sincerely,
Anna
