rristuccia's Full Review: Ratchet Clank Size Matters for PlayStation 2
I don't usually play games like Ratchet & Clank, but I have to say that I really enjoyed this game. Most action games just don't hold my attention for very long. I usually prefer RPGs and racing simulations. Ratchet & Clank is the action game for gamers who don't like action games.
The graphics and gameplay are both excellent. Guiding Ratchet through his 3D world of monsters-that-look-cute-until-they-try-to-kill-you and tricky jumps is much easier than in other games of this genre. The adventure begins on Ratchet's home planet but continues through a variety of different environments, including jungles, cities, space stations, underground mines, etc... To help them in their quest, Ratchet & Clank will acquire many different weapons and gadgets, some fairly "normal" like a bomb glove and some quite unusual, like a horn that taunt the enemies.
Overall, this is great game. I only have two complaints: First of all, some of "puzzles" are a bit tedious. (They're not puzzles in the Myst-sense, but they are not quite in line with the rest of the action.) For example, there are many doors that need to be opened by lining up concentric rings. Arranging the these rings becomes mostly just trial and error. My other complaint deals with the camera. Sometimes it ends up looking in the wrong direction and needs to be recenter manually. In my opinion, keeping the camera looking over Ratchet's shoulder would have been a better solution.
