| JBduckling's Full Review: Rawlings Pylons - Back To Basics |
National Football League quality, excellent for back yard and flag football use, the Rawlings Football Pylons are perfect for back yard play. I really wasn't sure what to think when my oldest boy got a set of two Rawlings pylons, the same you see on all football games! The pylons are used to mark the corners of the end zones of a football field, touch the pylon or tuck it inside of the pylon and it’s a touchdown! I thought it was a bit of over-kill until I see how much use the pylons get. In fact, we bough another set of two to mark the out of bounds or touchdown goal lines in our back yard field.
Each of the Rawlings pylons stand 15 inches tall and is bottom weighted. This allows the pylon to stay in place on the playing field without the possibility of a poke or a stick, more safety than an anchored pylon. Many other options have been tried, all are semi-dangerous. The shot weight at the bottom of the pylon keeps them in place, even during the windiest games! The Rawlings pylons are absolutely safe!
The pylons are soft yet durable, water resistant, and great for pick up games. Soft? Absolutely, the players and kids can land on them and there is no chance of injuries. They are foam filled for soft landings. Water resistant? Do kids every leave them out over night? The vinyl is heavy duty and durable. A little rain has no effect on them. They are light weight and can be carried around easily for the latest and greatest pick up games.
The bright, visible fluorescent orange color allows the kids to play late, even with the lights! They are very visible. With the weighted bottom, there is no need to go to the pro-style anchored pylons. These are perfect for junior and back yard football. Plus they make great goal lines for soccer, foul lines and bases for baseball, along with out of bounds for basketball. Compared to the hard plastic cones, these are a dream!
They are about two inches square and 15 inches high, the package they come in can be used for storage and a carrying case. Our cost at Sportsmart was $13.99 for a set of two. For something that started out pretty lame, the Rawlings football pylons can be a lot of fun!
Personally, I would place the Rawlings pylons in sports rather than toys, even though they are part of the BACK TO BASICS line.
