A cute game with a kid's point a view.

Written: Mar 03 '08 (Updated May 31 '08)
Pros:Funny, silly, easy to play
Cons:No replay value
The Bottom Line: Must have a good sense of humor to enjoy. Corny, but funny.

I picked this game up not knowing anything about it. I choose it because it looked like a funny game and had a multi-player option. My husband shook his head because he knew it was a kid's game but agreed because he knew that I needed an "easy" game. I won't go as far to say it's a family game. It's recommended for ages 10 and up for cartoon violence and crude humor. Up to four people can play the game, but individual Wiimotes and Nunchucks are required. We only played this as a 2-player game. I don't think it would be very much fun to play solo.

We've never played the first Raving Rabbids so I don't know how this game compares. This is one wacky game. My husband had to ask what in the world the creators were were doing when they came up with these games. This has some bazaar humor that would appeal to children. We never see our teenager in the evenings, but he always pops in when we're playing this game. He thinks it is really funny and enjoys watching the crazy things that the Rabbids do. If the player is really good at the game it's not that funny. But, add a player like mom who's very pathetic at playing video games and everything changes. The expressions and reactions of the Rabbids and characters when they get killed, knocked around or fail at the task is so funny.

For instance, in one game there are several rabbits at a movie theater. The player holds the Wiimote to their ear to act like they're talking on the phone when the light go out. When the lights in the theater turn on, the player tries to be the first player to put the Wiimote down. This is so stupid but oh my gosh it's a hoot. The last characters get a boulder dropped on their head which squishes them. It's hilarious. That is of course the first few times of game play. After you know what to expect it's not that funny anymore.

There's some disgusting games as well such as using the Wiimote to chew up carrots, then aiming and spitting the juice into cups.

In another game we play mad scientist. The characters are strapped down and it's the player's job to find potions. With the Wiimote, the player shakes bottles on the shelf to see what's inside. If it matches, the player gives it to their character. If it doesn't match, the character explodes.

Be a part of rock band and move the remote to the beat to add up points. A picture of the Wiimote or Nunchuck comes down a string to represent the notes. Players can choose to be the trumpet, guitar or drums. The characters can be seen on stage “performing” like a music video. The songs are popular rock songs with rabbit voices. As a player, I'm not able to watch the video in the middle because I have to focus on the beats coming down the sting on the edge of the screen.

There are races. The characters are sitting in grocery store buggies and race race down a hill. The remote is turn long ways and the player teeters the Wiimote to direct the cart. There are objects like bowlders and pigs in the road to avoid. There are different versions of the game where the characters are riding on different things. In one scene the character can throw water balloons at the other players while riding down hill. Again, this game is cute the first time or two but gets old.

My husband's favorite game is where we hunt Rabbids. We walk though a town and shoot plungers at all the Rabbids which are suppose to be the bad guys. The graphics are good in this game. We'll follow the Rabbids into a movie theater which looks just like a movie theater. There's lots of backdrops for this particular game. It feels like we're walking down steps and walking down the street. If the Rabbids are not shot soon enough, the Rabbids will come really close to the screen and plunge you. It feels like they are walking toward you and the Wiimote vibrates when you're struck. It's neat.

I do like the fact that game play is very easy. If I can play the games, anyone could. This is a novel game that is played for fun, not for the challenge or to win. In the classic scoring system the player may have gotten 15,000 for shooting plungers, but in the end their score would be 8 points and have a gold coin next to it. The second place player in a 2-player game would always gets 6 points and a roll of toilet paper by their score. The scoring method can be changed. For some real muliti-player fun, there is a “Rabbid Rankins” which gives the 1st player 8 points, the 2nd player 0 points, the 3rd player 4 points and the 4th player 2 points.

Since it is a kids game things are toned down some. Rather than shooting guns, we were shooting plungers at the rabbits. There's no big fuss about who wins or looses. The player is rewarded by having Rayman costumes unlocked. The game must be played on “normal” instead of “easy” in order to save the unlocked features or to upload game scores.

The graphics are good. Most of the emphasis is put on the Rabbids and the player characters. The expressions on the rabbits is priceless. I laughed so hard I was crying. One of the funniest games for me was trying to balance sandwiches on a plate to deliver to the customer. The Wiimote was used to steady the character and to walk the plate across the room. Well I couldn't do it and I kept falling off the edge. It was hilarious to watch the character loose their balance. If I bumped into the other player he fell off too.

There were plenty of sound effects to go along with the funny games. The characters and Rabbids don't talk but you can hear grunting and weird noises.

One disappointing this is the 60 mini games are pretty much a hand full of games replayed with a different backgrounds. For instance, the game where you talk on the remote while the lights are off is also played as swinging around in your office chair and stopping before the boss walks into the room. They're pretty much the same games. Another example would be the music games. They're played the same except there's a different song and a different background.

This game gives you a little bit of a workout. We played some of the games standing up, and other games sitting down. There's a great variety in the use of the controller. The player does a variety of things like circling to spin the plates or leaning side to side to direct something on wheels.

Wi-Fi
High scores can be submitted over the Internet and compared with others, but there's no Wi-fi game play.

Overall
This is a very funny game. Adults may enjoy playing it a couple times but it has no replay value. The game is simple enough for children and will appeal to a particular personality. There's crude humor and younger children may not appreciate it as much as say, a 10-year-old boy would.

This is a great game to play with visitors because there's not learning curve. Anyone can pick up the game and play. It's lighthearted and funny (but a little crude). The games are short and non-addictive. I don't see anyone playing this game for hours at a time.

It's definitely recommended for a rental, but $50 is pretty steep for this game considering there's no replay value.

My rating is based as an adult playing the game. I think think the 10+ rating is about right, so our younger kids didn't play this based on the "crude humor" of it.
