| scenery's Full Review: Red Hot Ayers Rock Nail By Opi |
You know you've picked a great color for your pedicure when three (very) different women compliment your shade selection and request the name before you leave the nail salon. OPI Red Hot Ayers Rock got this reaction from a seventy something grandma (pale peach toes), a blinged-out twenty something (metallic gold tips topped with blue airbrush lettering), and a teenager. (French on toes, the cool dark OPI Lincoln Park After Dark on tips)
Let's start with the color first. I would describe it as a cheerful red cream with a hint of pink. Not too dark, not too bright yet packing enough punch to stand out against my slightly tanned, yellowish skin tone. To get the most from a pedicure, I prefer colors that "swing both ways" to work with many different colors of clothing or sandals. Red Hot Ayers Rock somehow looks great and does not clash whether I wear purple, pink, red or orange- no easy feat for one red polish. This also leads me to think that this shade would flatter a variety of skin tones both lighter and darker.
Aside from the color, there is more to love in the formula. OPI polish sweeps on smoothly and evenly without streaks or big glops, building shiny coverage with every coat. The packaging boasts of an "exclusive PROWIDE BRUSH" and I find that it really does pick up the polish evenly and deposit color on more of the nail than your typical drugstore brand (about three to four strokes maximum per nail) and I rarely get those annoying drops or bubbles of excess polish on the base of the nail that are common with the cheaper stuff.
As for staying power on the toes, it is excellent. I can get a good 3 weeks out of a professional OR a done-at-home pedicure with minimal touch ups and a quick swipe of clear top coat here and there. Even after walking on a rough sandy beach, OPI survived with just the tiniest of wear on the very tips of my toenails. As for wear on the fingers, I cannot comment because I just file and use clear on those. Manicures just seem too high maintenance for me right now. Maybe someday...
Let's see, did I forget anything? Well, if you are interested in packaging, the (15ml/0.5oz) bottle is sturdy glass, the top closes tightly, and the clever textured top makes it easy to open even with lotioned-up hands. Obviously, this does smell like nail polish but does not seem to give off any unusually strong fumes. OPI polish can be purchased in many salons, beauty supply stores, and online for between six and eight dollars, not too steep for the quality and excellent color.
This brand always seems to have fun, interesting names for their colors and often releases new themed color groups. Red Hot Ayers Rock is part of the "Australian" collection.
