Pros: food is delicious, great atmosphere, terrific menu selection
Cons: expensive, can get crowded at times, no reservations
The Bottom Line: My favorite place to venture for steaks in the greater Mount Washington Valley. You might have to drive a little bit out of town, but it's worth it.

| AliventiAsylum's Full Review: Red Parka Steakhouse and Pub |
I had passed by the Red Parka Steakhouse & Pub for years. Whenever we stayed at Attitash Mountain Village it was on our way to our destination and whenever I would leave there for something down the road at Dunkin Donut, the liquor store, or the grocery story, I needed to pass this restaurant. However, I was intimidated about going into it with three kids, so we steered clear.
A couple of months back, after living here for some time and hearing so much about the Red Parka Steakhouse & Pub, a friend managed to coax me into giving it a try. I just wish I had given it a chance sooner. Sure, there is a Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub on the strip in the main part of town, along with several other eateries advertising great steaks. None have compared, in my opinion, to what I had when we ate at the Red Parka Steakhouse & Pub.
It’s located a bit north of town on Route 302, just past where Route 16 takes off further north. If you are in North Conway, simply head towards Attitash Bear Peak Ski Resort and you’ll come upon it on your left. It looks like an old house painted a mustard yellow.
The interior of the restaurant is low-level lighting and a casual atmosphere. There are several sections of the restaurant to dine in, including an old railroad car. On weekends and during the summer months, there is often entertainment going on in the Pub part of the restaurant. We try to avoid the crowds, so our trips to the Red Parka Steakhouse & Pub are usually during the week. They are open for dinner seven days a week.
The menu is really good. For appetizers, I have grown to like the French Onion Soup. It’s delicious, rich, and cheesy. We’ve tried a few of the other appetizers like the Spudskins and Jumpin’ Jax Sticks and while they are delicious without being greasy, I just like to have soup with a steak coming up.
The Red Parka Steakhouse & Pub has a salad bar which I enjoy immensely. It’s only $1.95 added to an entre and well worth it in my opinion. The selection isn’t huge but everything is good and fresh, whether there are 100 people in the restaurant or 10. I’ve ordered this with my steak every time we’ve gone and have yet to be disappointed.
When it comes to steaks, I’m a Filet Mignon person as I prefer a good cut of meat to a large quantity of meat. I am happy to say that I was not disappointed with this cut here. The standard filet comes with sauted mushrooms and a side of Bernaise sauce, or there is a Pepper Filet served encrusted with black peppercorns and a Jack Daniels demi-glaze and sauted onions. I am not crazy about pepper, but I tasted this other version when someone else ordered it. It was tasty, but not something I would choose to have for an entire meal – it’s just not my taste.
My other favorite to order is the Steak Marinade. This is a signature dish at the Red Parka Steakhouse & Pub. 10 ounces of top sirloin is marinated in the Red Parka’s own sauce. It’s really good and was the dish I had on my first trip here that kept me coming back for more! Any of the meat dishes can be ordered with horseradish, garlic herb butter, Bernaise sauce, Jack Daniels demi-glaze, blue cheese butter, or blue cheese walnut sauce. I really like having this option when ordering a filet. Sauteed mushrooms and onions are also available at an additional cost.
There are plenty of other steak selections to choose from, as well as chicken, ribs, and seafood. All of the entrees also come with a choice of baked potato, French fries, cheese stuffed potato (yum!), or the vegetable du jour. Fresh bread is available at the salad bar, even if you don’t get the salad bar with your meal.
The Red Parka Steakhouse & Pub does offer sandwiches although I haven’t tried them. We’ve always gone here for a full meal. They have burgers, prime rib, and chicken as selections.
There are some really great desserts here as well, something we’ve gotten to share at the end because a whole dessert for one of us is just too much. The Indian Pudding is my favorite, although I can easily be talked into Mud Pie. There are also some terrific flaming after-dinner drink concoctions that I have tried several times. This is done right at your table for some added entertainment.
We have never had a problem with our service here. it has always been rpompt, from taking our order to bringing our drink and menu items, to getting our check at the end. I have zero complaints no matter how crowded it is. The food has always come out hot and not like it's been sitting around waiting for a pick-up.
I could have brought my kids here, not that I would have wanted to at the prices. In the summer especially, the Red Parka Steakhouse & Pub uses an old Flanger railroad car for adult only dining to give grownups a place to dine without the Story Land crowd being present. The kids menu is good with things like chicken tenders hot dog, pizza, or pasta. However, I really have a hard time with the prices and we’ll usually order in a pizza for the kids while the adults go out to eat. Makes life less expensive and they are usually happy.
Just writing this review has made me hungry for a return. The Red Parka Steakhouse & Pub has the best steaks in the Mount Washington Valley, hands down. It can get crowded depending on the time of day. You can check the crowd levels by calling ahead, but reservations are not accepted. I haven’t been here for any of the entertainment, but I wish I had ventured here on some of those nights when I was holed up alone with the kids in the time-share just for a drink or two and a break for the evening. It’s a great place to visit with outstanding food in a terrific atmosphere.
