The Bottom Line: Redken CAT Treatment is a must for anyone who needs a boost of protein to strengthen hair (especially hair that is permed, colored, or washed daily with grocery store shampoos)

"Oh, your *HAIR* my GOD what are you using, Prell?"
I sat frozen to my leather chair in the finest beauty salon Portland, Oregon has to offer. My hair had been growing long since my 18th birthday, and I wanted a spiral perm so I could look just like all the other cool girls in the late 80's.
"You CAN'T be seriously asking me to perm this STRAW of an excuse for HAIR? It's breaking off in my HANDS!!"
Patrick spoke loudly, with emphatic hand movements and gestures. I was terrified and humiliated. A long moment of silence . . . and Patrick made up his mind.
"NO!" he said finally. "NO, I simply will not be doing this. It is not happening. This cannot happen."
He walked briskly away from me toward the front of the posh salon where I figured he was heading out the door and quitting "hair" for good. I was a hair *monster*.
Fortunately for me, Patrick (pronounced Pat-TREEK) was not abandoning my cause. In fact, he became my greatest champion in the battle for all things "hair." What had happened to my hair was what happens to all of our hair . . . the daily hair grind.
Daily washing with harsh cleansing agents, daily ineffective rinsing of those cleansers from the hair, daily ripping through hair with plastic bristled brushes, daily hot air blasting our hair from wet all the way to dry, daily scorching hair with a curling iron so hot it burns flesh . . . the daily hair grind leaves our hair weak, needing fortification; needing a big powerful CAT TREATMENT!!
Patrick sent me home from the salon with hope. He gave me a line of products from Redken that 12 years later I still gladly endorse. The most effective of this Redken line was indeed the small little bottle with the great big claim. The small little blue bottle that made me who I am today . . . CAT WOMAN.
Reading directly from www.redken.com, the Redkin CAT Protein Reconstructing Treatment claims to provide "intense protein reconstructing for all hair types."
The very specific claim it makes next makes you wonder where they come up with those percentages, but as someone who has seen her hair go from breakable to healthy, I just know this stuff works. "Strengthens damaged hair by up to 65% after 4 consecutive applications."
HELLO!!! Ladies and Gentlemen did you read that? Let's read it again, shall we? And let's give this claim its own special section, too!

Patrick knew his stuff. Three months later I was given the most beautiful, circa late 1980's spiral perm you have ever seen. My hair was glossy and bouncy and if you think I sound like a commercial for this product, you are right! I used the CAT Treatment faithfully, and my hair was strengthened and stopped breaking off in my hair brush or my hands, or as I slept at night!
I cannot recommend this crucial treatment enough for hair that is colored, permed, blow-dried daily, curled with a hot iron, relaxed, highlighted, even just stripped of protein from using such grocery store nightmare products like Suave, or Head-N-Shoulders as your primarly cleansing choices.
CUT! WHAT in God's name IS THIS? A DOCU-FREAKING-MENTARY? Melissa - you're fired! Patrick, go style something - Redken, I don't need your funding anyway - this film is getting FAR TOO DETAILED!
Oh dear. Well it started out dramatic but let's face it, you want to know how I became Cat Woman in specifics, don't you? And I can't sacrifice my fans for my film career! O.K. then. Here is how you can become Cat Woman too, and it doesn't involve black leather or a mask that would make *ANY* woman break out in hives.
1. Shampoo your hair!
2. Wring out the extra water from hair
3. Apply about 1/4 a bottle of CAT
4. Lather it like you would a shampoo
5. Leave on for at least 3 minutes, up to 5 minutes
6. Rinse
7. Moisturize with a good conditioner (3 minutes)
8. Rinse well
NOW DON'T GET ALL EXCITED!
You aren't CAT Woman yet! You must apply this product four times, and I would advise once weekly until it is used up. THEN you will be CAT Woman. (note: don't let beautiful hair make you catty)
The bottle is a deep blue plastic and is marked to show you how much product to use. The consistency is like that of water, so be careful and don't pour the stuff from the bottle into your cupped hand -- that's a good way to lose 1/2 of it down the drain.
What I would do is pour it into a little cup and check the bottle to make sure I had not poured too little or too much. Then, when my hair had been squeezed of excess water I would anoint my head with it (ha-ha) and pour slowly making sure I got the ends of the hair and not just the scalp - it is the old hair that needs this stuff!
When the bottle tells you to "lather," don't worry that you aren't getting mounds of suds - it simply means massage the product into your hair. You will get a small amount of lather, that's it. Leave CAT in your hair for the longer time listed on the bottle - 5 minutes. Let your hair marinade in it and soak it in. *DO* follow with conditioner, since this is primarily a protein reconstructing treatment to promote strength, not a moisturizing product to combat dryness. It cracks me up to see this listed as a moisturizing treatment because it definitely is NOT. So you do need to be faithfully using your conditioner (and please note there are differences between conditioners - don't use a "protein conditioner" while you are using CAT - you need one that specifically says it is a "moisturizing conditioner" on the bottle.)
I want you to be a CAT Woman (or CAT Man)!!
