My hair is shoulder length can be described as fine and color treated. As I am trying to grow my hair longer, I have noticed it is becoming more and more knotted. I can't seem to get a brush through my hair without losing some of it. I wanted a product to detangle my hair without weighing it down. I have used other Redken products before and was very happy with the results, so when I saw FAT CAT BODY BOOSTER FINE HAIR DETANGLER on the shelf at a local chain drugstore, I grabbed it.
THE PACKAGING
FAT CAT DETANGLER came in a 6 FL. OZ. white plastic container with aqua and black lettering. There is a flip cap top which makes it easy to dispense the product.
PRODUCT CLAIMS (AS PER BOTTLE)
FAT CAT Detangler, fortified with Soy Protein, provides combability and shine while building fullness and body. The entire CAT collection features Catatonic Vegetal Protein and Taurine* to help maintain healthy looking hair from the inside out.
DIRECTIONS (AS PER BOTTLE)
Apply a small amount after using FAT CAT shampoo. Massage through hair. Rinse.
INGREDIENTS (AS PER BOTTLE)
Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Behenyltrimonium metho-sulfate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Cetrimonium Chloride, Ceteareth-20, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Parfum), Methylparaben, Peg-14M, Disodium Edta, Ethylparaben, Magnesium Sulfate, Propylparaben, Taurine, Hydrolized Soy Protein, Acrylates Copolymer, Lauryldimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolized Soy Protein.
My Experience:
The product consistency was creamy, and thick. The odor was slight, somewhat medicinal, but did not linger in my hair after use.
I did not use Fat Cat shampoo before the Detangler as recommended in the directions. After using my normal shampoo, I had to dispense more than a small amount to cover all my hair.
I rinsed it out after about a minute. I have also tried this product a few times and left in longer to see if it produced different results, but it did not.
THE VERDICT:
I found that no matter how long I kept this product in my hair, I would always get the same results:
The FAT CAT DETANGLER is great at taming my knotted hair (not a hair came on my new brush) and did add shine BUT my hair was flatter than ever. NO amount of mousse, gel, or blow drying my hair upside down helped to add fullness after using this product. This was not the effect I was looking for!
I paid $7.59 for this product, which I think is high for a 6 oz. bottle. The bottle claims "Exclusive Salon Distribution" but I bought it at a chain drugstore.
