KMINER's Full Review: Redken Fresh Curls Conditioner
I have been enjoying using Redken products at my hairdresser's salon for at least 2 years now - and recently started asking her what shampoos and conditioners would work well on my hair. One of the items she recommended was from the "Fresh Curls" line - she felt the conditioner could help detangle well my permed hair. She was right. Though I don't feel this product works for me in the other ways it is marketed for, for soft, silky, mess free hair this conditioner really does the trick.
What Is Redken Fresh Curls Conditioner?
From the Redken Curls line, it is a nice, heavier smelling line of products designed for curl hair in mind. Working well on both permed and naturally curly hair, the conditioner is designed to detangle curls effectively and yet also help curly hair be soft and bouncy. Mine came in an 8 ounce package - the packaging for Redken is currently changing (see their website). The old packaging was a more round and thin bottle with pop up lid, the newer is more of a cylander with a flip top lid. This conditioner does not smell florally or fruit, much to my surprise it smelled rather "earthy" without being too heavy. It is a white thicker cream.
From the bottle:
" Fresh Curls Conditioner takes care of your curls without weighing them down. Redken's exclusive Interbond Conditioning System delivers coconut oil, honey and calcium to moisturize, define, and de-frizz. "
Using Redken Fresh Curls Conditioner
For me, using was a breeze. I did not use their Fresh Curls shampoo but rather other shampoos I typically use (some Redken, some not). This product applied well and stayed in my hair until ready to rinse out - rather than dripped all over the way too thin conditioners can do. It rinsed out easily.
The real test was combing my hair - I have longer hair that can be easily tangled - and my large comb was able to glide through my hair like a breeze. This was a huge plus for me. Also, once I dried my hair or let air dry my hair did feel soft and bouncy.
What I didn't notice though was any further curl definition or de-frizzing, when using the conditioner without styling products. Since I rarely just let my hair air dry and not use any products, this won't affect me much - but I have tried to use Redken Fresh Curls Conditioner and then nothing else to try and see how much the product really worked as it is stating it is designed to.
The bottle lasted me at least 4 to 5 months, though I didn't always use it exclusively. It stored easily in my shower and since it was plastic and well designed I really never have to fool with it.
Recommendations
I plan on buying Redken Fresh Curls Conditioner again - for me it meets all of my needs very well. I was very impressed with its ability to condition and detangle my hair without weighing it down. It never affected my curls or hair in any negative way when I styled it as I normally do. I would not expect this conditioner to totally style and set you hair for the day, but it could be a good step to use to add moisture and softness to curly hair.
