Pros:Easy to use, great light hold
Cons:May be harder to find, price
The Bottom Line: A wonderful, light spray gel that holds well, and works with many other products.
Going back to my story about my new hairstyle and introduction to Redken products by my hair stylist, one of the 3 products Tonja recommended for my hair (permed, highlighted and curly with bangs) was Redken Traction. Not being familiar with Redken products, I knew that when Tonja used them in my hair, in this specific 3 step sequence, my hair looked great. In trying to re-create that look and feeling at home, I decided it was time to take that jump and try using her recommended products myself. I paid $12 for a 8.5 ounce bottle.

Redken Traction comes in a slender and tall tube, especially compared to the other 2 products that I use. Traction is in a plastic bottle with pump-style spray nozzle at the top, protected by a see through plastic cap. The bottle is easy to use and hold, and site well on my shelf. You can hear the product sloshing around when you shake it.
The Redken website offers this information regarding Traction:
A light styling spray with natural beeswax that gives hair instant grab-ability so you can work it into high-glam, sexy styles.
Spray evenly on damp hair, blow dry and style as desired. Or apply to dry hair to give instant grab to create contrasting textures, updos and modern knots.
I was told by Tonja to use the Redken Traction while my hair is wet, and after a thickening product that I rub in first. To use the Traction simply spray on damp hair as needed. This is a very quick process and takes me only a very short amount of time.
Redken Traction as a styling aide is a very nice, natural feeling spray gel, though unlike any other mousse, gel, or spray gel that I have tried. Traction leaves my hair soft, and yet I can see my curls "define" as I spray this product on my damp hair. I was told that this product needs to be dried in the hair, as leaving it to air dry from the damp state with this product in will make my hair "crunchy". And, true to form, I did try just that, and yes my hair was "crunchy" as she said it would be.
I have noticed a big difference when I don't use Redken Traction - my curls are not as defined and frizzier. I especially notice right after drying my hair - if I dry my hair after using the thickening lotion only, my hair becomes a big frizz ball - not a flattering look.
Another way I use my Redken Traction is with a lighter curling cream - my current favorite being Beyond The Zone Noodle Head Curl Maker . After the Noodle Head cream I'll just spray some of the Traction into my hair and my curls are defined and hold all day. I also use Traction on the days I don't wash my hair and leave it up in a ponytail. After applying some thick conditioner to my dry hair I spray in some Traction to help revitalize the curls.
Redken products can be bought at many salons, and in some areas Redken has been easy to find in more common stores like grocery markets. I purchase my Redken products directly from my hairdresser who keeps them stocked on her shelf. I have really liked how the Redken styling aides have helped improve the look of my hair.
*As a note from other reviews, I used Redken's Thickening Lotion when my hair is wet, then spray on the Traction, and finally use the Undone once my hair is dry.
