| cntaur5's Full Review: Reebok Dream Basketball Shoes Men's 0098 |
Sear’s was practically giving the Reebok Dream Basketball Shoes for men away; selling them for only $24.00 a pair at Jamestown Mall in St. Louis, Missouri not to mention the additional 30 percent discount they offered.(Ching Ching) I usually don’t buy Mid-cut basketball shoes; I never had ankle problems and generally prefer the flexibility and lighter weight of a low cut tennis shoe.
I really felt the Reebok Dream Basketball Shoe 0098 was a bargain since the name Reebok is a staple in the tennis shoe industry. Not only does Reebok International Ltd., which is headquartered in Canton, MA make it’s own tennis shoe but they make fitness apparel and equipment.
And if you are really curious about the name Reebok the name represents the South African antelope (Pelea capreolus).
Unfortunately for Reebok International, the Dream Basketball Shoe did not get the notoriety that the other shoes with the fancy sole design got; however I’m not crying about it since their loss is the consumer’s gain.
Anyone who’s gone tennis shoe shopping will quickly notice the fancy new stylish shoes ranging anywhere from $100.00 to $179.00 dollars, offering high-flash designs with high-tech styles in hopes of catching the consumers eye and grabbing the big dollars.
The Reebok Dream Basketball Shoe offers fairly good cushioning, that’s surprisingly light and durable. The shoe is able to handle the pressure of the bodies weight when jumping up and down for a ball leaving your feet secure and cozy in the shoe. Remember when you slam dunk a basketball; your heel has to absorb a force of up to 10 times your body weight. And don’t worry about wearing heavy clod hoppers, these shoe’s are light made with soft plastic and leather.
My Reebok Dream shoes are soft white leather mid cut uppers have a simple yet basic design featuring a simple gray stripe outline. Part of the tongue is actually gray, with a rounded tongue that feels soothingly comfortable against the shins. This shoe comes in the standard sizes, however I bought the last size 11 on the shelf.
On this particular tennis shoe Reebok sports what they call their “Hexalite Technology” which is evident primarily at the bottom of the shoes. The rubber bottoms come with hexyls like designs and in the heal area the shoe features decorative see through plastic hexagons.
Reebok believe it’s the herringbone outsole pattern that provides the additional traction and stability in comparison to your average tennis shoe.
The Reebok Dream shoes definitely have more traction than my old fashion cloth Converse tennis shoes. Other tennis shoes by other manufactures that offer the fancy stylish traction soles include Fila’s Grant Hills and Nike’s Zoom Air Pros.
With the Reebok Dream Basketball Shoe you don’t have to worry about twisting your ankles, the laces are sturdy and secure wrapping around the ankle area like mid cut socks. The upper part of the shoe around the ankles is snug enough, yet loose enough not to cut off your circulation. If you are one of the many players that wear an ankle brace, you might want to give the Reebok Dream’s mid cut tennis a try.
I currently work as a part-time Personal Trainer, and I usually go through a new pair of tennis shoes in about 3 to 4 months give or take a month depending on the weather, use and durability of the shoe. Despite having these shoe’s for two-weeks, I’ve worn them almost everyday, non-stop, indoors and outdoors.
So far they’ve endured the rain, walks in the park, a few pick-up basket ball games, aerobics class, weight lifting, and Tae Bo.
Fortunately I’ve had no major spills or accidents, and I’ve only had to wipe them with a damp cloth to rub off the tread of another over zealous basketball player who landed on my foot. (ouch!)
In the end the consumer will have to ask him or herself, will a $100.00 dollar pair of sneakers make you run faster or soar higher than a $24.00 pair that’s use to be $100.00 dollar? (Stop, don’t answer that!) For the price, style, feel and comfort I recommend the Reebok Dream shoe as a wise consumer choice.
And for the fashion conscience consumer other divisions of Reebok include, Ralph Lauren footwear, Rockport footwear and the Greg Norman Collection.
