Fair enough. I just don't find him to be pretentious. If you do decide to give him a chance, check out Poses. It makes me really, really happy. And if you happen to see The Aviator he's in that too...singing and everything. I had no idea he was in that flick until I actually saw it.
I understand where you're at--he is a bit of an oddity. Talented and wonderful oddity to me ;)

Release The Stars is everything that is great in music with an air of confidence, some major theatrics, but entirely lacking in pretension. I hate pretentious things, and this is certainly not.
Which is an interesting statement, because I've tried to listen to a couple of Rufus Wainwright albums and I find him to be the height of pretentiousness.
Something about him that's just a little too "precious" and "artsy" for my tastes. You wrote an excellent review, though. Almost convinced me to give him another chance. Almost.
