A Missing Wife Returns in Remember Me by Sharon Sala

Written: Jun 30 '04
Pros:Interesting story
Cons:Predictable at times
The Bottom Line: Remember Me was an entertaining book by Sharon Sala. It was predictable at times, but still enjoyable. Her fans should enjoy it.

I have several books by Sharon Sala. I was hooked on her books after the first one I read. There are similarities in all her books, but they aren’t identical. I recently read Remember Me again.

Clay and Francesca LeGrand were happily married. Clay worked at his father’s construction company and Frankie worked at the library. One day, a year after they got married, Clay came home to find that Frankie was missing. He called the police. The detectives that came didn’t believe that Clay didn’t know more. They thought he was involved in Frankie leaving somehow. Two years later, Clay came home from work and found Frankie in bed. She was acting like the two years she was missing hadn’t taken place.

Clay was shocked that Frankie was back. He wasn’t sure what to think. During the time she had been gone, Clay had been under suspicion by the police. The press had seemed to think he was guilty of something as well. Frankie was very confused and she passed out. At the hospital, tests were run. Traces of sedatives were found in her blood and she had some injuries like she had been in a car wreck. The doctor thought that could explain her memory loss. She thought she was in an earthquake at one point. A small tattoo of an Egyptian symbol was found on the back of her neck. Clay wasn’t sure he still trusted Frankie because of how she vanished.

There was an earthquake in Southern California that caused a lot of damage. A man was dug out of the rubble of a building. He was severely hurt and talked about his woman. The rescue workers didn’t find anyone else in the rubble near the man. He was later identified as Pharaoh Carn, a man with ties to the mob. He was very weak because of his injuries, but he was focused on finding the woman he considered his. He said she was his luck.

Frankie spent several days in the hospital. She couldn’t remember what happened to her, but she had a few partial flashbacks. She was upset that she couldn’t remember what had happened to her. She was very frustrated. She and Clay spent time together and grew closer again. They worked to figure out what had happened two years before and where Frankie had been. Frankie figured that she had been kidnaped even though Clay never received a ransom. She was worried that it would happen again. She didn’t trust the police, and she let them know it.

Remember Me was released as a paperback in 1999. I got my copy of the book right after it was released. I noticed recently that there were copies of several different Sharon Sala books in the local bookstore with different covers. The books are in the romance section of that book store. That is where I have seen books by Sharon Sala in other bookstores as well.

I enjoyed Remember Me. I thought that the book was very interesting. The plot was unique. I wasn’t bored by anything that happened. There were a few things that happened that were predictable, but there were also things that happened that I didn’t expect. The book was well written and descriptive, like all books by Sharon Sala that I have read have been. There were a few emotional moments in the book as well.

The questions surrounding Frankie’s disappearance provided some mystery for Remember Me. Everything seemed fine to Clay when he left for work that morning. When he got home that evening, he found the front door open, traces of blood in the house, and no sign of Frankie. For two years there was no trace of her, and then she turned up back home in bed. She didn’t remember what happened while she was gone. She and Clay tried to figure out where she went and why she stayed away. Frankie did start to remember some bits of pieces that didn’t make much sense at first. The mystery was fairly easy to figure out, but it was still entertaining. There was some violence in a few scenes, but the book really wasn’t that violent. Some people could be upset by the few violent things that were in the book.

Frankie and Clay had been married for a year when she vanished. They were very much in love. Once she returned, she and Clay had to work on their relationship to get it back on track. They got to know each other again and became intimate again. There were sexual situations and acts between them described in the book. Those scenes were descriptive, but not that explicit. They were tastefully written, but some people may feel differently about that and could be offended. People who don’t like to read those types of scenes should avoid this book.

Sharon Sala also writes books with the name Dinah McCall. I have no idea why she uses two different names for her books. I have read the book she has written as Dinah McCall as well. Those books are written in the same style as the ones written with the name of Sharon Sala. In several of the Dinah McCall books, one of the main characters would be a Native American. In a few of the books, it was minor characters instead of main characters, but someone who was Native American was still in the book. People who like books by either Sharon Sala or Dinah McCall will probably like books by the other since they are the same person.

CHARACTERS

Clay LeGrand - He was devastated when his wife vanished. He was considered a suspect in her disappearance for two years until she returned home even though there was no evidence to tie him to anything. He was aggravated with the police and the fact that they hadn’t been able to help him find Frankie. He was shocked when she returned home and not sure what to think at first, but he got past that. He was a strong, determined man.

Frankie - Clay’s wife. She was very happy with her marriage before she vanished. She turned up back home in bed two years later with no memory of being gone. She was mad about losing two years of her life. She was determined to figure out what happened to her. She wasn’t going to be a victim again. She learned how to shoot a gun so she could protect herself if needed.

Pharaoh Carn - He was tied to the mob and known to be a criminal. He was badly injured during an earthquake. He’d had a woman with him. He considered her to be his and he wanted her back. He said she was his luck. He was obsessed with getting her back.

Remember Me isn’t the best book I have ever read, but it is enjoyable. It kept my interest while I was reading it. Fans of Sharon Sala or Dinah McCall may also like this book.
