Pros: Needs no oiling, hair trimming vacuum, rechargeable.
Cons: Vacuum collection fills up quickly on heavy jobs.
The Bottom Line: Great beard trimmer that doesn't require oiling and collects hair clippings using a tiny vacuum motor. A must have for beard owners.

| bigjon's Full Review: Remington MB-400 Beard Trimmer |
Since I started growing a beard, I decided I would need a beard and mustache trimmer. Before, I'd let my beard grow out too far and since I had no way to trim it...I'd just shave it off and start over.
This is a much needed change. I've tried it out a couple times and I'm really impressed with the Remington MB-400.
Features:
2 motors (one for the blades, one for the vacuum)
Titanium coated blades (never need oiling)
Adjustable height trim shield (removable too)
Hair clipping vacuum with removable "trimming tray"
Rechargeable
The titanium coated blades were a plus. I have a hair trimmer as well...but it requires to be oiled after every use (ugh). The ability to use this trimmer and not have to mess with goopy oils and such...great idea.
The adjustable height trim shield, a must. Instead of having 25 different attachments to get the desired beard length...you get one adjustable one. Using the scroll wheel on the front, you adjust the levels from 1 to 8 (each level having a different cutting length). You can also take the shield off for trimming and touching up.
Unfortunately though, since this is a "trimmer" and not a "shaver", the trim mode only takes you down to stubble. You still have to use a shaver to get that smooth feel.
Hair clipping vacuum...nifty idea. This helps to capture SOME of the mess you make in trimming...but doesn't work to the full capacity when you are trimming down a long beard. The clippings are sucked through a chute near the blades, they collect in the "trimming tray" that pulls out for cleaning.
When I first used it, my beard was about and inch long. I had trimmed it down pretty close and collected A LOT of trimmings in the enclosed trimming tray. When I opened it, all the hairs were stuffed into the tray and made it kind of messy to empty. Not to mention I had filled it up so fast and full that there were still hairs stuck in the vacuum chute.
Needless to say, I got it all cleaned up and it doesn't seem to be as bad as when you are just trimming a beard and not hacking it down. :D
Now, by no means does the vacuum catch ALL the trimmings, but it does a decent job. I'd still recommend using it over the sink.
Rechargeable battery....a must. I don't need another device that requires AA batteries. While the Remington MB-400 doesn't come with a "charging base" the unit stands up on it's own and you plug the charging cord into the front of it.
It was really easy to use (didn't even read the instructions first) and I really like it. Also included is a little cleaner brush for cleaning the unit. You also get a small comb for more advanced fading and trimming. The instruction manual shows more on how to do this. The unit is fairly noisy...but not enough to wake anyone up in the early morning. From what I can tell...this unit is NOT submersible in water and is NOT to be used in the shower.
