Introduction...
My hair is always messy. It is never straight, it is never tangle free, it is never sleek and sophisticated. Sometimes my wavy hair can be tamed by applying liberal amounts of styling products but the sticky, slimy feeling will no longer suffice. So I took a deep breath, gathered up my Christmas money and stumbled into my nearest department store.
I was about to buy my first ever hair straightener......and boy, was I glad I bought this beauty.
The Product...
"It's a revolution in straightening. Remington's new Wet2straight (tm) actually dries hair while straightening, eliminating the need for blow-drying.
It's specially designed for use on wet hair, the result is healthy shiny hair and long lasting styles. Wet2straight (tm) features 2 x protection against damage.
The TeflonÃî coating prevents sticking while the ceramic locks in moisture" (taken from website)
Wet2Straight is packaged in a black box and comes with a heat-proof storage bag (so the straightener doesn't have to be cool before being put away).
My Experience...
As I walked through the department store, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted. I had heard good things about Wet2Straight from friends, and the countless advertisements in magazines couldn't help but catch my eye.
I drew closer and closer to the hair straightener section. As I finally arrived there, my eyes scanned the shelves eagerly for product.
Where was it? My sight then drifted towards a lonely, empty shelf..."Remington Wet2Straight $114". SOLD OUT?! HOW DARE THEY! I DIDN'T MAKE THE GRUELLING TREK ACROSS THE STORE FOR NOTHING! It soon became clear that the lady next to me was clearly yelling the same thing inside her head. I would not give up.
After haggling with a storeperson, I found myself walking away with the last Wet2Straight in the store which was conveniently hidden in the change rooms (no I did not steal it, a storeperson was just keeping the last one there :P).
I couldn't help but try this baby out straight away, so I hopped eagerly into the shower, washed my hair, towel dried it, and opened the packaging. Inside I found a typical straightener but on one side of the plates there were little steam vents so that excess steam from the wet hair would be channeled out. The instructions warn that the side with the vents should be faced away from the head, and there is also an indentation for your thumb which indicates the right-way-up. The instructions also mentioned that I should not be alarmed when I hear a hissing noise when using the straightener: this is merely the hot plates coming into contact with the water, and I should expect to see some steam coming from the vents.
Here goes nothing.
I turned the temperature dial slightly to the left so that it was sitting somewhere between THICK and FINE. After 30 seconds, it was ready to use. HHHIIISSSSSSSSSSSSS. I thought my hair was burning off. Okay, okay, I know I was told to expect this, but you can't help but get a little scared. After slowly dragging the straightener down a length of hair, watching steam erupt from the vents, I stood back and admired my handy work.
Whoa. Mega straight. Super straight. Poker straight. And completely dry. Lets continue!
After 10 minutes of straightening my rather long hair which is neither thick or fine, I was amazed. This straightener kicked butt. My hair stayed straight all day, people made comments about how amazing my hair looked. It was so incredibley shiny and soft, I couldn't stop touching it.
My Recommendation...
Wet2Straight is a lightweight, easy to use straightener which can be used on both wet and dry hair. It has variable temperature for thick and fine hair, a niiiicee long 3 metre cord for easy access and is highly effective in straightening. It left my hair straight, shiny, sleek and soft. The heat-proof storage bag that came with Wet2Straight was also very handy as it allowed me to pack the straightener away as soon as i was finished.
I would recommend Wet2Straight to anyone, whether they have fine hair or thick hair, wavy hair or very curly hair. Because this can be used on wet hair, I believe that it would be effective in straightening very curly hair. It is easy to use but beware of the steam: extremely hot. Make sure to sufficiently dry the roots of your hair before use as well as the plates are too large to reach them, so you may end up with straight hair and wet roots.
Thanks for reading. Now, I'm off to go look at my hair in the mirror.......again
