In the new world order, when we live under a utilitarian rule all restaurants will be like this one. Patrons sit on benches and order from futuristic waiters who carry computers and wear black clothing.
The noodle options are diverse and inexpensive, but bland. All of the dishes run between $6 and $10. But they aren't very exciting. You can ask for pepper to spice up the bland food, but it doesn't work so well. However, despite the lack of excitement in either the food or the atmosphere, the restaurant is always packed. The line moves quickly, but be prepared to wait (even on a Tuesday evening).
If you are young and want to be seen, but don't have a lot of money -- this is the place to go. Right off of Union Square park (convenient to get to using the L, N, R, and 4, 5, and 6 trains), Republic has a great location. I would go there once or twice, but Republic is not a restaurant you want to make a habit out of.
