PassionFruit Papaya by the Republic of Tea

Pros:good flavor, high quality, unbleached tea bags
Cons:none
The Bottom Line: Passionfruit Papaya has a cool combination of tastes and is produced in a high quality manner.

I am not a big fan of coffee, but tea I am all about. I love buying lose leaf teas, but at the office those are a little harder to handle, so I bring in a variety of packaged teas, one of those is the Republic of Tea's PassionFruit Papaya which the package describes as "Fine Black Tea Blended with Papaya, Pineapple, and Blossoms".

I love the container it comes in. It is made of metal and has a a metal lid with a plastic seal so it fits pretty well and keeps the container pretty air tight. The whole thing is about 3 inches in diameter so it easily will fit on its side in just about any drawer and since it is a canister you can set it upright in a closet or on a shelf easily as well.

When you open the canister you can smell the tea you can tell that it is black tea, but there is a hint of fruitiness. The actual ingredients are "fine black tea, sunflower petals, natural passion fruit, papaya and pineapple flavoring".

There are 50 unbleached round teabags in the container and they seem to be about 1/3 full if you hold the edge and shake all the tea to the bottom. Since the whole container weighs 2.8 oz (80g) these are very light bags.

The packaging says it has about 110mg of caffeine in a 5 oz cup, compared to around 190mg in a 5 oz cup of coffee. But seriously who only has 5oz of anything?

I enjoy the flavor of this tea. It recommends to infuse the tea bag in boiling water for 2-4 minutes. I usually do 1-2 minutes and then save the bag to brew another cup of tea later. I find that one bag makes tea that is more than strong enough for 2 cups and if I really stretch it I can get a third cup of weak tea. The flavor is rich and although I can't recognize a specific passion fruit or papaya flavor it does have a slight flavor that doesn't make the tea sweet, but does make it different from plain black tea.

Overall I highly recommend this tea. The quality is good, I've never had a bag tear on me, the flavor is strong and enjoyable, and it comes in a cool airtight container that is recyclable.

This is an entry in cmaw63's Food for Food write-off, sleeper54's Lean-n-mean VI write-off, and kamel622's EpiWriMo write-off.
