Pros: Superb value near Houston Hobby, Ellington Field and NASA. Good restaurants nearby. Complimentary hot breakfast.
Cons: Starbuck's within walking distance not conducive to good night's sleep.
The Bottom Line: Very good value for business or leisure, especially extended stays.
Recommended higher than the average Residence Inn based on the friendliness of the staff.

| pilotpat's Full Review: Residence Inn by Marriott Houston Clear Lake |
This hotel is between Ellington Field and NASA - 10 minute drive to either. Houston Hobby is about 20 minutes.
The hotel sits on at the end of a row of hotels, restaurants, and shops. Notable nearby amenities include a 24-hr Kinko's and a Starbuck's. A reasonable Mexican restaurant (forgot the name) is 100 yds from your door, as is a Boston Market. I'm not a Krispy Kreme addict, but many I travel with are - one of their sugar factories is within a mile.
The rooms are standard Residence Inn apartment style. In good shape, clean, and modern. Coffee makers and hair dryers are included. Phones have dataports. The bathrooms are moderately sized. They offer 2-room suites as well as the one room studio suite I was in. I think a couple guys even lucked out and got fireplaces.
The desk personnel were uncommonly courteous even for a relatively quality chain like Residence Inn. There was a large event going on in the area, and most rooms in the vicinity were booked. The front desk clerk went out of her way to help others in our party who arrived without reservations (very short-notice trip). She called to several locations and found rooms for each person. When there were two no-shows for her reservations, she asked us if we still needed rooms.
The room rate includes a quality hot breakfast, which I figure is easily comparable (and more pleasant) to what you'd spend $10 at a breakfast chain for.
The hotel has an outdoor pool (not that enticing with the cool weather we had) and a standard (unfortunately) hotel fitness room - a few things to work out a sweat, but not to do it enjoyably. Bally's is about 3 miles away, if you're a member, or you can buy a day pass.
The Starbucks nearby is a plus when you're working late nights and early mornings... although coffee and sleep aren't always compatible!
Overall, I was happy with my experience at the hotel. Residence Inn continues to put out a "known quality" of establishment - you know what you're getting into when you make a reservation, even if you've never been there before. It's not the Ritz Carlton, but it's not a Motel 6 either. It's a very good value for business or leisure, especially extended stays.
Having said that, I would recommend the Clear Lake location even higher than the average Residence Inn based on the friendliness of the staff.
