Pros: Outstanding location, comfortable room, attentive staff
Cons: Just a bit too far to walk to the Strip
The Bottom Line: Visiting Las Vegas but don't want to stay on the Strip? Stretch out and get comfortable in a clean, convenient suite that's close (but not too close) to the action.

| MPescatore's Full Review: Residence Inn by Marriott Las Vegas Hughes Center |
There are two groups of people in this world. The first thinks the Las Vegas experience is incomplete without actually staying at a hotel on the Strip. The second group prefers to sleep elsewhere. After more than a dozen trips to Sin City and experiencing both options, I prefer the latter. If you are like me, I have found a great option.
The Residence Inn by Marriott Las Vegas Hughes Center, one of several Residence Inn choices in Las Vegas, is conveniently located about a mile away from the Strip, just off Flamingo Road (so it's close to Bally's, Bellagio, and Caesar's Palace). It's a bit too far to comfortably walk to the Strip, but it's surrounded by a variety of restaurants, from the casual, tasty Bahama Breeze to the blessed, high-end Lawry's The Prime Rib. You're also down the street from the Las Vegas Convention Center and a very short drive to the airport or UNLV. Great location.
The room itself was spacious and well appointed. The queen bed felt a bit small, but it was a nice suite, complete with kitchen (full-size fridge), fold-out couch, and a good-sized bathroom. While it wasn't a "fancy" room, it was clean and well maintained, an excellent base of operations for a weeklong business trip or weekend of fun.
An added bonus: free breakfast. This is not your typical free breakfast. This is so-good-you-want-to-wake-up free breakfast. Eggs, juice, bagels, English muffins, donuts, waffle batter (make your own), cereal, oatmeal, meats, and more. I've paid top dollar for breakfast buffets in much fancier hotels that were nowhere near as satisfying.
Did I mention the swimming pool? And hot tub? And exercise room? And conference rooms? And the free wireless Internet access? And a staff that was attentive and professional that actually provided correct directions to local attractions? Maybe I should stop now; I want to make sure there's room for me next time I'm in Vegas.
