Pros:Easy and quick to use, foam spreads easily
Cons:Didn't really make high traffic areas as clean as I'd like
The Bottom Line: A product I would use for occasional touch up, but not for whole carpet cleaning.
When I wrote a review on o-Cel-O sponges, it reminded me about the Resolve High-Traffic Foam carpet cleaner that has been sitting in my cleaning cupboard for months.

I used this carpet cleaner again this morning, just to see if my opinion of it has changed, but sadly it has not.
Resolve comes in a red can, and it makes some lofty claims. The can says that it:
* Protects & repels stains
* Removes toughest ground-in dirt
* Cleans, deodorizes and protects carpeting
* Makes cleaning large carpet areas easier
* Helps prevent future soils from setting
Growing up, my mother did not own any carpet cleaners, and she used foam sprays similar to this one for her carpet cleaning needs. I bought this can to touch up smaller areas of our carpeting that get more wear and tear. Specifically in front of our living room door, and in front of our couches. I also have a few light coffee stains that I was hoping to get rid of.
Using Resolve High-Traffic Foam is not hard. After shaking the can, you are directed to hold the can upside down, and spray evenly over a 3 foot square area. Then you work the foam into the carpeting, scrubbing in both directions, using a damp mop. My mother always used a mop with the sponge applicator, but I use my large O-Cel-O sponge. It's large enough to allow me to scrub hard, yet I don't scrape my knuckles on the carpeting.
You repeat this process, again cleaning a 3 foot square area, until the entire carpet is clean, then when it's dry you vacuum it up, which is supposed to collect dried foam and loosened dirt. There is also a "self cleaning" method that directs you to spray the carpet, let the foam sit for 15 minutes, and then vacuum. I have not tried this method.
You can also clean upholstery with Resolve by letting the foam absorb for 3 minutes, and blotting the area with a damp sponge or cloth.
Let me first say that my carpets are not real dirty, I have them professionally steam cleaned every year. But there are still the "high traffic areas" that need attention, and since this cleaner is specifically designed for these hard to clean areas, I had high hopes it would work.
Right off the bat, I am not pleased with the scent of this foam, it smells very caustic to me. Second, the sprayer is hard to get the foam exactly where you want it to go. My first spray this morning ended up all over the bottom of our living room door!
I followed the directions exactly, and scrubbed in both directions, making sure I had an even amount of foam on all the carpet I was working on. Although I did see some improvement in my carpets, the foam did not remove all of the soil. As for the small stains that I attempted to remove, those did not come out at all. This worked better in front of our door than it did in front of our furniture, which really showed little improvement.
Comparing Resolve High-Traffic Foam cleaner to the job that my steam cleaner does, there really is no comparison. However, the Resolve is much handier to use, there is no set up, no cleaning of machines afterward. I guess I would recommend this for the occasional stain, if you get to it immediately after it has happened, otherwise I don't think this product really lives up to it's claims. It also does not leave your carpet wet like a steam cleaner would, it's generally dry in 20 minutes.
