| emuelle1's Full Review: Restform Raised Air Bed with Pump and Storage/Trav... |
My wife and I used to have a pull out couch bed that was not very comfortable. Late one night, she saw a commercial for the Restform air mattresses and thought they sounded good. The next time the commercial came on, she taped it so I could see it. We decided it would meet our needs for having company stay over, since our guest room had become a nursery by that point. Heck, a 450 pound bear climbed around on it, so it should handle us, right?
The commercial said something about getting a free twin mattress with your purchase. When I first called, I ordered a twin and asked for my free twin. I do not exactly recall how, but they managed to work a charge in for that free mattress. I should have realized that I was not dealing with a great company right away when I told my wife that I ordered a twin. I don't know why, but my wife likes for me to make the phone calls even when she knows exactly what she wants. I had to call back because she thought if we were getting a free twin then we should upgrade to a full. When I called back, I was told that the order was already sent into the system and could not be retrieved. Now, I have been working with computers for more than a decade and am currently pursuing an Information Technology degree, and I honestly do not believe any company that tells me that a record cannot be retrieved or modified or processed immediately. Though I am often told this over the phone, I have NEVER come across a situation in REAL LIFE in which it will take hours or weeks to process or modify a database record. I had to call back several times to change the order to a full, but they shipped two orders and happily charged my credit card for both. I had to pay UPS to ship one order back, and the credit was returned to my card eventually.
Once we had the order that we wanted, we opened up the twin and inflated it. It inflated quickly and seemed comfortable. My wife had her sister sleep on it when she stayed over, which wasn't always often. We noticed quickly that the twin had a leak, which I finally traced back to the flap in the valve that you push open to deflate. It's not entirely a defect, but it is a pain. The bed will almost entirely deflate overnight. After going through this with her sister for a while, we set up the full. It worked good for a while. Since the pump is built in, it's easier to inflate in the middle of the night if it has a leak. However, when the full developed a leak, it wasn't in a valve, but on a seam. It's now pretty much worthless, but I haven't thrown it away just yet. I keep thinking if I get time maybe I'll try some rubber cement.
Why do we continue to subject ourselves to infomercial merchandise? Has anyone ever actually bought anything from an infomercial that is useful, quality construction and lasted longer than the 15 second warranty? My wife does enjoy her Ultimate Chopper; for that I'm grateful. I just can't wait for the other shoe to drop on that one...
