Let me tell you what a good night's sleep is like.
A good night's sleep is being able to get comfortable on a mattress that is not too firm and not too soft. A good night's sleep is being able to sleep soundly oblivious to your partner's tossing and turning. A good night's sleep is not rolling into the rut that formed in the middle of the bed, because there is no rut. A good night's sleep is knowing that you saved a huge chunk of change.
I've always been a bit skeptical of mattress salesmen. All the shouting and screaming ads on TV: "Must sell all stock!" "Liquidation sale NOW!" "We are going out of business from now until next Friday!" ...None of that has filled me with confidence. If their mattresses are so good, why are they going out of business?
So when my fiancé and I decided to purchase a new bed (i.e., something other than the scary mattress in the basement), I was both excited and wary. We visited several stores and tested several different mattresses - King Koil, Sealy, Serta... But the beds were either of shoddy workmanship, too soft, too firm or too expensive. Just like Goldilocks, we couldn't find a mattress that was Just Right until we walked into the Restonic outlet...
...and we fell in love with this mattress. Even while the salesman was giving us the spiel about the special springs and the hand-stitched construction, I was imagining a perfect night's sleep. The queen-sized mattress was fluffy, but not too squishy. It was supportive, but not too firm. My fiancé could bounce around all he wanted on his side of the bed, and I would barely even feel it. I'd wanted a mattress with the pillow top, but I didn't think we could afford it. This mattress proved me wrong.
After it was delivered, however, we realized that extra-deep pocketed sheets were needed for the mattress. The pillow top added about three inches to the depth of the bed, and a regular sheet could barely fit around it. It's not really a bad thing, just something to consider. The handles on the mattress are well attached, and the stitching is well-done and even. In fact, even the frame it was delivered with was easy to put together.
I did notice a bit of vertigo the first time I sat on it, though. After having had a much lower bed, I felt as though I was ten feet off the floor on the new bed. Our older cat was having problems as well, circling the bed and nattering at us because she couldn't figure out how to climb up that high. However, I eventually got used to the height, and the cat figured out how to climb up. All was well.
The night that the bed was delivered was the first sound sleep we'd had together in a very long time. And the next morning, I discovered another bad thing about the bed...
It's too comfortable, and it's very hard to get out of bed in the morning! Maybe I'll buy one for my office...
