Pros:Stainless Steel Good Looks, venting lids, collander spouts
Cons:Cleaning Nightmare, not non-stick, can cook unevenly
The Bottom Line: If Pots and Pans could talk, these would tell me to get out of the kitchen!
Five years ago I received a this Revere Ware Solutions Cookware 10 pc set for a wedding gift. Having only had pass me down and dollar store pots and pans from my post-collegiate years, I was quite thrilled to have my very own cookware that didn't "look nasty". My mother has a set of this cookware that she has had for ages and absolutely loves it so that was what I got as well.

The Revere Ware Solutions Cookware 10 pc set comes with the following pieces:
1 1/2 quart Saucepan with Steam Venting Cover
2 1/2 quart Pouring Saucepan with Colander Cover
3 quart Saucepan with Steam Venting Cover
6 quart Stockpot with Steam Venting Cover
9" Skillet (uses the same cover as the 6 qt stockpot)
2 quart Steamer Insert
Each of the pieces are made of durable stainless steel and have easy to grip handles. Revere products are backed by a full lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects. Revere has been around forever and the brand actually traces its heritage back to Paul Revere. (I'm not too sure I "buy" that, but that's their claim!) What I will "buy" is that Revere is the #1 brand of stainless steel cookware in the US.
There is something really appealing to me about shiny metal stainless steel cookware and appliances. This set of Revere cookware is no exception. I still remember with excitement the day that I opened the big box, unpacked each piece and hung them up one by one on my brand new Williams Sonoma pots & pan rack. It was sometime around then that I got transformed from wayward college grad to wannabe domestic goddess, or so I thought. At first glance these pots and pans certainly give the appearance of good looks but years later they certainly will tell you a different story. Oh, boy - I would hate to hear what my pots and pans could tell you if only they could.
The Revere Ware Solutions Cookware 10 pc set is a pretty comprehensive "starter set" for kitchens and is relatively inexpensive. The prices vary but I've seen this full set on sale for under $100 on many occasions. Many pieces are also available for single purchase but purchasing the set is the better deal costwise. For the money, the Revere Ware Solutions Cookware 10 pc set also has some really great features.
Steam Vented Covers
As someone who has had pots boil over many a time from a lack of venting, I can appreciate the optional steam vent openings that are in all of the covers. The set includes 3 covers - the smallest can be used only on the 1 1/2 quart saucepan, the middle size can be used on the 2 1/2 and 3 quart saucepans singly, or when used with the steamer insert in conjunction as a double boiler, and the largest can be used either on the stockpot or on the skillet.
Pourable Spout & Collander Lid
The 3 quart saucepan is a bit different than traditional saucepans. First off, it has a pour spout on the side of it. So if you are making sauces or anything pourable you are all-set. Simply pour out your contents through the pourspout instead of over the edge and making a splattery mess. The cover that fits into this pan is also "fancy". In the side of the cover is a built in colander. When using this cover in conjunction with the pourspout it makes cooking pasta and other boilables so easy. Just cook, pour out the excess liquid and serve. If you don't want to use the collander opening just rotate the cover a bit so that the built in collander side is not in use.
Easy Grip Handles
All of the pieces included in the Revere Ware Solutions Cookware 10 pc set have large easy-grip handles that don't get overheated. I still recommend the use of oven mits or potholders though since it is possible for them to get hot enough to be uncomfortable.
You mean the lids have to share?
As mentioned, one of the best features of this set are the steam vented covers. I'm someone who covers everything when I cook and usually have several pots and pans in use at the same time. Having only 3 covers presented a problem. You can't have both of the middle sized saucepans in use with covers and you can't use the stockpot and the frying pan at the same time either. This is an inconvenience if you are cooking up something (say pasta) in the larger pot and then want to cook up some ground beef or meatballs in the frying pan. Which one gets the cover? I would like both to be covered for simmering purposes.. grrrr.
How do they cook?
Your mileage may vary here of course. I struggled cooking with these pots and pans. I found that they were either too hot, or too cold, or there were uneven temperatures. Now, this could also have to do with my stove but I do love my stove very much and don't have this problem today with a T-fal set that I am using. I "got to know" my stove and these pots and pans at the same time and unfortunately had way to many "mistakes" while using these pans. Nothing like things that are cold in one spot but boiling and burning in another. I attribute part of this to the lack of a copper bottom on this particular set. The bottom is a 3-ply aluminum disc. My Mom's great set of revereware is the copper bottom one and it makes a world of difference.
If you aren't cooking something messy they clean up nicely with soap and water, and to keep them shining a bit of stainless steel polish. However, because the Revere Ware Solutions Cookware 10 pc set is not non-stick, it can make for quite a cleaning challenge. Using this set you will get used to soaking and scrubbing. These are both activities that I would rather not do in the kitchen. Who would? I'll save the soaking and scrubbing for a long hat bath, thank you.
Confession time, my frying pan got so nasty one time with things that stuck to it, that I ended up throwing it away when I got my new non-stick cookware. The switch to non-stick for me was like night and day both for cooking and cleaning.
I definitely had mixed results with this Revere Ware Solutions Cookware 10 pc set and ended up replacing it with a set of non-stick cookware. For me, non-stick was the way to go that fits my lifestyle. If you are looking for a basic, durable, inexpensive set of stainless steel pots and pans I would definitely look into this set. It has some really nice features and is well-made.
Though I ultimately replaced it, I still use several of the pieces on a regular basis, and I love the pourable spout and collander lid. If you are someone who cooks often you might check into the copper bottom set since I think it does a better job heating the food evenly at high temperatures. I also saw that Revere offers a non-stick version of this set as well.
