Another exerpt from my weight-loss chronicles- One drawback of losing weight is loose skin. After a few months on a weight loss plateau, my skin is sorting itself out and I have discovered that I have a neck! Now more than ever I need to use a firming moisturizer to keep my neck, face, collarbones, etc looking good.
Revlon Age Defying Instant Firming Face Primer with Botafirm (registered trademark) was one foray into this skin firming adventure. Primer is a good name for it, as it helps foundation glide on more easily instead of getting trapped in the wrinkles that I tend to get, some from age but mostly from loose skin.
According to the Revlon website, Botafirm is supposed to be a combination of botanicals and hexapeptides. Whatever you say, Revlon. I am allergic to a lot of plants and "natural" cosmetics often bother me, so I was curious what was in this stuff. I found some product info on Cosmeticsinfo.org, which Revlon links to. Apparently the herb sage is used extensively (leaf and oil extracts). Also used is Carageenan, a type of red seaweed.
There is a mild fragrance, but it's similar to that in Revlon foundation.
Hexapeptides- a hexapeptide is a peptide containing six amino acid residues.... well if you say so.... apparently acetyl hexapeptide is a new molecule developed in Spain. With funding from the Spanish Ministry of Technology and Science! It is supposed to relax facial tension, thereby inhibiting new wrinkle formation and making old wrinkles less deep. There are apparently clinical trials on this, but there is no way of knowing exactly how much botafirm Revlon is using in this product, so I don't know if those trials are applicable. Botafirm is described as a botox alternative. Because, well, nothing like a shot in the face! Really it seems you wouldn't want your facial muscles to actually relax because then your skin would sag more.
I haven't seen wrinkles disappear, and I don't know about muscle relaxing, but my skin feels smoother and it's definitely easier to apply foundation. There is no oily feel as you get with some moisturizers.
