| tiasmom's Full Review: Revlon Colorstay Concealer SPF 6 |
I prefer a liquid concealer, and of course I also like them to stay put, so I’ve been buying Revlon Colorstay Concealer for quite a while. Colorstay products are long wearing and don’t rub off. They stay on until you take them off.
The reason I prefer liquid is that it seems to give better coverage. Sticks are often greasy like a lipstick and can slide off. A liquid, applied with a wand, is also easier to apply in my opinion, and looks more natural.
Colorstay Details
The concealer comes in a 0.21 oz (6.2 ml) tube with a sponge-tip wand. The wand is slanted for more precise coverage. It contains an SPF 6. I’m a bit skeptical of adding SPF to a concealer. I always wonder if people who don’t wear sunscreen on their face otherwise end up with pale blotches where the makeup was when they take it off. I can see the need for it in moisturizers and foundations, but not concealers. But I suppose if you had a red mark you were trying to conceal, keeping the sun off it as much as possible would help it fade the fastest. In any case, I’ve never had a problem with blotchiness since I wear a sunscreen on the rest of my face anyway. The active ingredient for the sunscreen is Titanium Dioxide, a physical, rather than chemical barrier, so it’s not likely to irritate skin.
It’s fragrance free, but if you really concentrate on it, it smells vaguely of glue. It’s also oil free and non-comedogenic of course. You wouldn’t want to be causing skin problems while concealing them.
The colors available are not as many as their foundation. With a concealer it’s not as important to match the skin exactly as with a foundation. It’s also always better to go a little lighter, rather than darker if you can’t find the correct shade. If it’s too dark, it will just make your skin look blotchy and won’t blend in. Although I don’t wear ivory foundation, I do wear that shade of concealer often. Other than Ivory, it’s also available in Natural Beige and Sand Beige.
The price online varies from around $7 to $8. I usually pay around $5.99 in the store.
Performance
It works equally well on dark circles, discolorations and blemishes. I always apply concealer after applying foundation even though it’s sometimes advised to do it the other way around. If done after, there is no chance it will be rubbed right off. Because even though this is a transfer resistant product, rubbing foundation over it is not something I like to do. It sets in 60 seconds so it’s best to blend it right after applying. I use my fingers to pat it in and usually use transluscent powder all over to set it. The liquid is easy to apply. Just touch the wand where you want coverage and blend.
Once applied it will last throughout the day. If you use a good cleanser that removes makeup, a separate remover should not be needed. It gives total coverage and exceeds my expectations. My makeup case is rarely without it.
