Great, if you like the look of dry bleeding lips.

Pros: The color stays put. Neat, slim case.
Cons: You have to really scrub to get it off. It's incredibly drying. Feels like chalk. Clumps and bleeds.

| MikesCelticLuv's Full Review: Revlon Colorstay Lipliner |
I first purchased this product back in 1996. Isn't it cool how I can remember when I first purchased a tube of lipstick? I remember because I bought it for my senior prom. I knew how to make lipstick last. Years of ballet and drama club performances made me a pro when it came to keeping the stuff on my lips. First, I would use Vaseline lip therapy to moisturize my lips. I'd blot that and apply a very tiny amount of foundation to my lips. I'd follow that lining them and using the liner to completely fill my lips in. Then, I'd apply the actual lipstick, blot and set with facial powder. WHEW! That sure kept the color on my lips, but it was such a time-consuming hassle. I was looking for something quicker. Something that takes one simple step. Enter Revlon ColorStay lipstick.
My prom was coming up and I wanted something easy and long-lasting. I didn't want to have to constantly reapply my lipstick when I could be tearing up the dancefloor. I had heard about ColorStay in magazines and from friends so I thought I'd give it a go. About a month before the prom, I bought some make-up to try out. I wanted to figure out my make-up in advance (prom night isn't the time to experiment). I'm glad I tested that lipstick out in advance.
I bought two shades of ColorStay, Ginger ( a fleshtone) and Cocoa (a neutral). Upon the first application I was completely disappointed. It didn't go on smoothy at all. In fact, it pulled on my delicate lips. The lipstick was terribly dry. It felt like I was using chalk instead of lipstick. As I applied it, tiny clumps of the lipstick were left on my lips. I had to use my fingers to get remove those clumps. After application I blotted my lips. True to it's claim, the lipcolor didn't come off on the tissue. Looking in the mirror, I wasn't happy. Sure, I liked the color but it was very obvious that my lips were dry. When asked, my mom told me my lips looked way too dry. I wanted to see how long it lasted. After an hour I couldn't take it anymore. My lips felt like I had hiked in a desert all day. They felt tight and devoid of all moisture. I went into the bathroom to take it off. I looked in the mirror and noticed how bad my lips looked. The color had become uneven and it bleed into the little lines in my lips. I looked like I had cracked, bleeding lips. I tried to take it off with a tissue. No luck. I used a wet washcloth and scrubbed my lips but most off the color stayed put.
Thinking it was my fault that my first attempt was unsuccessful, I tried it again. This time, I used a little Vaseline Lip Therapy one my lips first. Then, I applied the ColorStay lipstick. My second try mirrored the first one. The Vaseline didn't make a single difference. I ditched both tubes of lipstick and went with something else for my prom.
You'd think I would have learned my lesson the first two times. Nope. I tried it one more time last year. I thought Revlon may have improved their ColorStay line after three years. Wrong. I bought their ColorStay Liptint (designed to deliver a more sheer color) in Mica. At home, I tried it out and was instantly disappointed again. My dear fiance told me it looked "unnatural" and tasted "pretty darn gross" (after giving me a smooch). Luckily, the drug store refunded my purchase, so the 7 bucks wasn't a waste after all.
Conclusion
Obviously, I don't recommend Revlon ColorStay lipstick. I was 100% unsatisfied with it. It looks and feels too dry. The color does last, but you may have trouble removing it. It tends to clump upon application. It may also bleed into the lines of your lips. The lasting color isn't worth all the other annoyances it brings. Nowadays, I use my old application routine for performances. For a night on the town I just use Jane lipstick on it's own and it suits me just fine.
