I hesitated when seeing the Revlon Skinlights Custom Powders in Target a few weeks ago. I have read numerous reviews about Revlon Skinlights products here at Epinions and remembered many people complaining that these products were too glittery. However, after careful examination, I determined that there was no glitter to be found in these powders. I had been cruising the aisles looking for a light bronzer anyway and figured this blend may do the trick. My skin is always so pale and during the spring, I really want to brighten it up without looking fake or unnaturally dark.
THE PRODUCT
The Revlon Skinlights Custom Powders come in a long and flat rectangular compact that is about the size of my hand. The top of the compact is clear so that you can see the powder and the lid snaps shut. This compact is a bit large, but very flat so it's great for traveling.
In the compact are four different face powders and a small brush. The four powders and defined as Face Powder 1, Face Powder 2, Brightener and Bronzer.
Revlon.com advises that there are two ways to wear the Revlon Skinlights Custom Powders - layer the shades or blend them. . .
LAYER
* Go for a soft, natural look by wearing FACE POWDER 1 and FACE POWDER 2 alone or blending together to create a shade that matches your skintone.
* Add a touch of BRIGHTENER to create a healthy glow.
* Or, warm up your skintone with the BRONZER for a sun-kissed look any time of the year
BLEND
* Blend all four shades together with brush to create one custom blended shade.
You can purchase the Revlon Skinlights Custom Powders in one of three shade palettes based on your own skintone:
Bare Light - fair skintones
Natural Light - medium skintones
Golden Light - golden, tawney skintones
MY EXPERIENCE
I personally consider my skin to be Fair, however I tend to tan fast and get quite dark during the summer months. Therefore, I decided to purchase the Natural Light palette so that I can use the powder throughout the summer when most of my normal face powder is too light. I have been using this palette now while my skin has no real color and have had no problems with the powder being too dark or looking unnatural.
My only complaint when using the Revlon Skinlights Custom Powders was the brush! It's simply useless. It's too small to pick up any powder and does not distribute the color well. I use my own brush and I recommend that you plan on doing the same if you purchase this powder.
I have both layered and blended the powders and have liked the results either way. When I want to go for a bronzed look, I blend the two face powders for a base and then apply bronzer on my cheeks and forehead for a natural tan look. For work, I normally blend the two face powders for a base again, but use the skin brightener as a blush. This gives me a healthy glow rather than my normal boring pale skin with harsh, dark blush on my cheeks.
The powders have a nice texture and feel like most other powders I have used. There is no harsh smell or strange feel to it. I have combination skin and have experienced no breakouts from using this product. My skin looks and feels great and the powder lasts all day over my foundation.
CONCLUSION
I am absolutely in love with this product and will continue to purchase it. For $10 you get 2 face powders, a bronzer and a brightener instead of just one powder. And, they are all in one convenient palette together!
I love the look and feel of the powders and the color blending is amazing - it really awakens my face! I can get the soft, sun kissed look without the sun. The powders are not glittery like the other Revlon Skinlights products. My only one complaint is the brush, but this one still gets 5 stars from me.
