Pros: Lightweight, retractable cord, easy-to-use rocker buttons
Cons: Buttons aren't in the best place
Recently, my hair dryer decided to blow a fuse, permanently. I don't know why, but it just stopped working. After many years, it was time to buy a new one. I was amazed at how many choices there are, but I ended up with the Revlon Tourmaline Model Rv544.
This 1875 watt dryer is full-sized (not one of those tiny travel-size units), but lightweight. In fact, I was very pleasantly surprised by this fact. No more tired arms!
There are two buttons - one for heat (hot/warm) and one for speed (hi/low). I like the fact that there are separate controls. After all, why shouldn't I be allowed to enjoy the full airflow of the high speed setting, even on those occasions when I want the lower heat setting? There's also a "cool shot" button - used to quick-set a style.
Overall, this dryer works great! My hair dries quite quickly, certainly faster than with my old dryer. And, it feels comfortable to use, not awkward, like some of the other full-size dryers I've used. The rocker-style buttons are easy to use, and easy to reach when using the unit. The only problem I’ve encountered with the buttons is that it’s easy to accidentally hit them, while you’re using the dryer. Thus you may find yourself turning the dryer off, when you don’t mean to.
This dryer includes ionic technology. I'm not too sure what that is - something to do with adding negative ions into the usually positively-charged hair. Presumably this results in hair that is smoother, less frizzy, and less prone to static fly-aways. To be perfectly honest, I remain dubious about these claims. I have not seen any difference in my hair's condition that could be explained by using a dryer with this new technology. I'm not saying it won't work for anyone - I really don't know - but for me, it doesn't appear to make a difference.
The dryer comes with two attachments - a diffuser, and a concentrator. I haven't used either one, so I can't comment on them.
The five-foot cord is retractable, which I like. It helps keep the bathroom sink area neat, and avoids tangles in the cord. However, the retract feature doesn’t work too well. You frequently have to hit the “retract” button several times before the entire cord is pulled in.
Still, I'm happy with this dryer. Lightweight, comfortable to use, and very effective at drying and styling my hair, this is a keeper.
A decent dryer for travel:
