The Bottom Line: One of the best female singers in country music shows up huge in this album. No ifs or abouts, just pure country joy for the listener.
kirsib's Full Review: Revolution * by Miranda Lambert
Miranda Lambert has been one of my biggest favorites from country girls singing for years. She is edgy, she is classy, but most of all she is a great singer. And she writes her songs, just a talent to admire.
I like her style of mixing the attitude and almost rock like tunes with totally country twang, you never know what to expect from her.
I was not overly thrilled by the first single from this album called Dead Flowers, it is a classic old time feel true country song with sad message. Maybe I'm just tired of listening to sad songs?
Thankfully her newest release White Liar has everything I want from the good country song. It is funny, has catchy tune and Miranda uses her voice as only she can. The video is worth watching if you want to know more about Miranda and her talent.
Over all I'm not sure if I'm totally in love with this album, I've learned to expect so much from her. There is some beautiful slow ballads, but most of them seem somewhat forgettable. There is few tries to go back with her rockin' roots but nothing like Kerosene for sure.
Lyrics are good and I'm sure this album will grow on me over time. Miranda seems more grown up and serious, maybe too grown up for my taste. I wish I would feel the passion from her singing I'm used to sensing.
The way this album is produced seems little too pro, she does not miss a tone but in many songs I get a feeling that she is trying to get it right so hard that she forgot the joy it is to sing! Time To Get A Gun is one of those songs. I get a feeling that she is reading the lyrics in front of her instead of pouring her soul into her work. Lighten up girl! Even the next song called Somewhere Trouble Don't Go sounds like something played in slow motion. I know she can rock it up better than this studio version!
This album is Miranda's third major release and it opened top of the charts as it should. Slowly Miranda has climbed to be a star she deserves to be. She has been in the shadow of Carrie and Taylor for so long but in my mind she should be in the front row right with those two country girls if not in front of them!
Miranda is showing how she has grown as a song writer and The House That Built Me finally brings her back to me as a soulful singer she can be. Miranda and acoustic guitar is a combination to die for.
After listening to this album I get a feeling Miranda has grown up a lot, she still has that fire and soul but now it comes out with a confidence. Miranda is not trying to prove a thing, she simply does her thing. Thankfully her thing is to sing some first class country songs she created!
15 tracks with no total misses, if you are into country music, go get it. As the case is always with her, there is way too many gems to have them all released as singles!
