I love cooking in my crock pot (aka slow cooker). It means quick and easy preparation, and good food. The only thing I dread about using my crock pot is the terrible mess that has to be cleaned up. Especially after cooking chili or spaghetti. That can be scary on a white cooking surface, that's been cooking all day!
While leisurely watching television a few weeks ago, I saw a commercial for the new Reynolds Slow Cooker Liners. *Insert really big lightbulb here* Why didn't I think of that? I could've made a fortune. Anyway, I made a mental note to pick these up at the store asap.
The product
I found the Slow Cooker Liners on the shelf at my local Walmart, near the aluminum foil and saran wrap. The cost is about $3. They come packaged in a box of 4 liners, all the same size. They are designed to fit all slow cookers, measuring at 13 by 21 inches in size. According to the package, they fit crock pots that are 3 to 6.5 quart oval or round shaped.
The liners are clear plastic that is quite durable. The Reynolds website indicates that the liners are "made of a blend of nylon resins suitable for high temperature cooking while containing foods."
Using the liners
To use the slow cooker liners, you simply open the liner and place it into the slow cooker bowl (the part that cooks the food and is removable). Place it snugly into the bowl and then pull the excess over the sides of the bowl. Put your ingredients in and cook as usual. When finished, remove the bag and throw it away. Simple as that!
My Opinion
How could this not be a winner? I already had my hopes set high when I bought my first box of liners. I couldn't wait to try them out on something really messy... spaghetti. All that red, bubbling sauce was the perfect recipe for a first test.
I followed the instructions and put my sauce into the crock pot and liner. I let it cook all day long as I usually do. The sauce cooked perfectly and looked and tasted just as good as it always does. Nothing out of the ordinary here. After everyone had served their plates, I turned the crock pot "off" and let it cool down.
After dinner, when it was time to clean up I scooped out the remaining sauce (love me some leftovers!) and then lifted the liner out of the crock pot and dropped it into the garbage can. Yes, it was that easy! I then took my perfectly clean crock pot and put it away. No washing whatsoever was necessary, except for the lid of course.
I've since used the liners to cook several other recipes and not had any problems. I love these things and will definitely be a repeat customer. Thank you Reynolds for making dinner clean up even easier!
