sweetcece's Full Review: Rice Flour Brown Organic 1 lb
Imagine waking up one day being allergic to gluten products! Do you have any idea what that does to your life? Because of this, I had to search for other flours to assist me in cooking and this led me to brown rice flour.
Brown Rice Flour
This flour is basically made from brown rice. When processed properly it is gluten free and is able to be used by people on gluten free diets. The flour is not used on its own but in combination with other flours for baking to help with the texture of the baked product.
I have made a great cornbread substitute using brown rice flour, buckwheat flour, and amaranth flour that I also used in a dressing recipe for Thanksgiving.
In addition I have used this product in other ways, such as sauces for stroganoff and so forth. I am currently still experimenting with recipes in order to create recipes that I can use in the future. Im hoping to be able to create some pastas to use so that I do not have to pay for the more expensive rice pastas that I purchase from the specialty store.
Overall, the flavor doesnt really have much of a flavor per se. Thats my opinion, but overall brown rice has a nutty or gritty/gummy texture. When made into flour, this is not the case.
This product is good for people who are allergic to gluten, are on anti-inflammatory diets, and also children who are autistic.
Drawbacks
Brown Rice Flour is very expensive compared to wheat flour. However, for most people who have these types of allergies, theres no choice in the matter.
Brown Rice Flour is also very hard to find sometimes in certain stores. You cannot find this product in Wal-mart, but you can in larger Publix or Kroger stores. The best place to buy this is online in bulk hopefully with reduced/free shipping.
Also, since this is a gluten free flour, it does not bond together as wheat flour does. You have to experiment with this flour in combination with others and use a binder such as xantham gum or something else to assist you in your baking.
Recommendation
Compared to other gluten free flours, brown rice flour is one of the better buys. Therefore if you do have food allergies, you are more likely to buy this type of flour than any other type. That is unless you are able to grind your own.
Overall, the person who needs this product will readily purchase it for much higher than the regular price of basic wheat flour just because of the need to use this specific non-gluten product.
This product does meet up to the high standards that are required for those who demand this product and because of that I recommend it for that reason.
