First. Let's set the record straight. Ephedra is not Methamphetamine, crank, cocaine, or anything of the sort. People who compare the two simply DO NOT understand the chemistry behind it. So, if you just read a review that compares the two, STOP. In case your wondering more about ephedra, I've included some of the most accurate information I have found. In this case, much of what I've included is from the ephedra education council.
OK, OK, Ripped Fuel contains ephedra......like a hundred other products out there do, including the incredibly successful Metabolife 356.
Ephedra is the naturally occurring, active ingredient in the herb ma huang, and is the main source of ephedrine alkaloids used in dietary supplements like Ripped Fuel.
Because several states have banned the use of synthetic ephedrine in dietary supplements, responsible and well known brands like Ripped Fuel contain ephedrine alkaloids from Ephedra, not pure synthetic ephedrine.
IS EPHEDRA METHAMPHETAMINE?
NO!! In theory, it is possible to convert pure Ephedra to methamphetamine. Remember, dietary supplements do not contain pure Ephedra. Plus, read the Ripped Fuel label. It’s a virtual plethora of ingredients, whereby pure ephedra cannot be separated once the capsule’s ingredients are mixed. Add this to the fact that the actual amount of ephedra is VERY small, and you begin to understand why it is not practical to make methamphetamine from Ephedra products. And above all, REMEMBER That Methamphetamine has a totally different chemical composition.
DOSE: As for the amount of ephedra per dose of Ripped Fuel, let's be honest, most cold and allergy medications contain several TIMES more per dose than Ripped Fuel does....usually in the form of pseudoephedrine, the synthetic form of ephedra.
Even the FDA has stated that ephedrine is "generally recognized as safe and effective" for over-the-counter (OTC) drug use as a bronchiodialator. Look at the package many OTCs recommend doses up to 25 mg of ephedrine taken up to 6 times per day – about 150 mg per day. Pseudoephedrine for OTC use has been approved by the FDA at a dose of up to 60 mg per serving – about 240 mg per day.
In comparison, Ripped Fuel contains just 20 mg per serving. The label recommends no more than 3 doses per day, or 60 mg ephedra alkaloids total per day. As an FYI, the supplements industry has a self imposed maximum limit of 100 mg per day...a limit developed from clinical safety evidence from multiple published studies.
When is the last time you saw a 20/20 episode on KILLER COUGH AND ALLERGY MEDICATIONS.
The point I'm trying to make is that you simply have to look at all parties involved here.....media, government "experts", product users, whomever. Just do your research.
DOES RIPPED FUEL WORK??
Numerous studies show that Ripped Fuel is effective for weight loss. Just do your homework. The studies...lots of them that prove its effectiveness...are there. I personally HAVE used Ripped Fuel and can tell you that it DOES work. It limits your appetite, and gives you tons of energy.
WHAT ABOUT ALL THE MEDIA HYPE??
Recently, in 1997, the FDA proposed a rule to limit the amount of ephedra to only 8 mg per serving. When it proposed the rule, they (FDA) said they were acting on more than 800 adverse reports from consumers that connected ephedra to multiple health problems. Later the General Accounting Office, you know, the office that patrols the actions of the other offices.. embarrassed the FDA by releasing the following information (I took this directly from the council):
“As a direct result of FDA's failure to perform even the most simple quality review of its reports, FDA's record for the proposed rule included absurd reports such as the following:
1) a report of a woman whose blood alcohol was twice the legal limit and who died of a fractured skull after driving her truck into a tree at 90 mph;
2) a report of a man who shot himself;
3) a report of a suicide from a gunshot wound;
4) a report of a man who died of environmental hyperthermia;
5) a report stating "Shot and killed store clerk;
6) a report of a woman who "got pregnant though using Norplant";
7) and reports of excessive hairiness, a 75-year old woman menstruating, a possible diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, a case of impotence and a case of constant erection.”
Like I said, the FDA was later publicly embarrassed by the GAO for these crazy reports where ephedra had NOTHING to do with the condition reported.
HOW SAFE IS EPHEDRA??
Remember, ephedra isn’t for everyone. ANY product, including products like aspirin, nuts and berries, can be dangerous.
Above all. When using this, or any dietary supplement, you MUST choose a company that has YOUR best interests in mind. Just like anything else, in this industry, you get what you pay for. Cheap supplements are often just that.....cheap, and a waste of money. And you never know how much of an active ingredient just might be in there. With ephedra, you NEED to know.
Choose a company that has decades of experience, and full time employees who are committed to quality. I have personally seen Twinlab, and other nutritional supplement manufacturing facilities and can tell you that NOT ALL are created equal. Some have pharmaceutical quality, some barely pass for a garage.
Bottom line is to always read directions and warning, start slow and assess your tolerance. If you a health condition, consult your physician (be aware that he/she may already have an opinion on ephedra), and above all STICK with a company you can trust. I’ve found Twinlab to be one of the best.
