This is a review of an fecal evacuation product and will contain some rather frank and possibly offensive content. If you are easily offended or find subjects of this matter unpleasant or awkward to read about, please do not read any further.
Enemas. A subject that some people cant even think about without getting embarrassed. What is it about fecal functions that always manage to gross people out? And before you even think it, I openly admit that I am a pretty twisted person but playing with my poop isnt my bag, not even close. While more people will snicker, giggle or elect to pass on reading this, its a sad fact of life that there will be times when you are impacted and over the counter oral medications and home remedies dont work. When things reach this point there arent many options available; you can take care of it in the privacy of your own home or visit the emergency room where I can almost guarantee you wont get the most gentle of treatments. Now, to turn the tables slightly, if you have kids chances are at some point in time you will need to administer an enema. Be it due to illness, dehydration, holding feces or those who view potty training as a fate worse than death, chances are if you have a child, youll have to give them one of these so its best to have them on hand in case they are needed rather than having to run out in the middle of the night.
Rite Aid Complete Ready To Use Triple Pack Enema
This triple pack of premixed enema solution can be found at most Rite Aid locations for about two dollars, thats less than half of what you would pay for the Fleets system so if you arent a product snob, you can save a nice bit of change with the store brand. One of the nicest things about this product, if indeed there can be a pro to it, is that you dont have to worry about your body contents emptying back into the bottle when you go to remove it. This is probably one of the biggest distracters to using enemas, having to deal with the mess that can happen when you pull it out. The tips are no prelubricated so if you are using this on someone that is extremely tense you may want to add a small amount of Vaseline or other lube to it to make insertion less uncomfortable. If you are using this on a child, please read the side panel and do not use this on a child under the age of two. The amount of liquid in each bottle should be enough to procure good results however if you are severely impacted, you may need to give a second treatment the next day. If you are having any type of severe abdominal pain or distention you should contact your primary health care professional for another treatment plan and please, do not use this product more than once every 24 hours.
When I have had to use these on myself its been for a reason other than to expel fecal matter; since I am heavily into fitness and weight lifting I take supplements that raise my core body temperature to burn fat and lose weight. At times this is a hit or miss type of thing I get poor results or I find a combination of products that work a little too well. So what does that mean? My temperature raises more than three or four degrees which is not only uncomfortable but can result in severe dehydration, muscle cramps, black outs and if not addressed promptly, long term damage to organs. I take a more non conventional route when dealing with a high temperature an ice water enema. I can already hear jaws dropping and the gasps coming from mouths but this is truly the quickest way to reduce a body temperature. I am not dishing out medical advice nor am I telling anyone to do this under any circumstances; I am simply passing on my use for these. Putting one of these in the freezer for about five minutes gives it a good chill but could easily get the same temperature change if it were left in the refrigerator for thirty minutes. This isnt something that most people will do for pleasure since it is a shock to the system to have ice cold water shot into your colon but if you are suffering from a high fever, the few minutes of discomfort are well worth it when you get relief from a high temperature.
Giving ones self an enema isnt an easy task but I do have to admit that the shape of the bottle makes insertion and application of the fluid easier than some other brands. If you have ever used a Fleets enema, you are basically getting the same thing here minus the high price and brand name. The ingredients are identical to Fleets so if you had good luck with their system, the Rite Aid one should work just as well. If you have never used an enema you would be wise to sit down and read the instructions before you start so that you can apply it correctly and avoid any damage to your body. If you have been impacted for more than four days or have used other over the counter products without success, you may want to consult your doctor since this could be a sign of a bigger problem or a situation where medical intervention is necessary. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should contact their doctor before using this and use it only after its use has been approved by a qualified medical care provider. There are detailed instructions enclosed inside the box so please read them carefully and if you have any questions or concerns, do not proceed until you feel comfortable or know how to properly execute and deliver the enema.
The ingredients in this enema are the same as those found in Fleets - monobasic sodium phosphate and dibasic sodium phosphate. If you are wondering why its not just straight water used in an enema, heres the reason. If you use straight water you will throw off your electrolyte levels and could cause some severe dehydration as well as making the situation worse after the fecal matter is expelled. The methylparaben is added as a preservative and the water used in the enema is USP purified water. Needless to say, this is for rectal use only so dont try to use it on any other part of the body or as a makeshift douche. One important thing to mention is that this is a latex free product so if you have any allergies to latex, this is a safe product to use.
To be made fully aware of the possible dangers of this product, please read the side panels of the box as well as the information on the leaflet. As I already mentioned, if you are pregnant or nursing, you should ask your doctor about this before you use it. He or she may have a better alternative for you to use. If you dont feel comfortable giving this to yourself then its best to try and find someone to give it to you rather than stressing and straining and risking possible injury. If you have any major medical issues or are on any medication it might be a good idea to contact your doctor to alert him that you are having constipation that requires the use of an enema as this could be a sign or a larger problem or an indication that your medication may need to be adjusted. Do not use more than one enema within a 24 hour period and if you experience any trouble inserting the enema, stop and contact your doctor.
The Bottom Line
If you are suffering from constipation and need relief, this is a great alternative to using the brand name products. The ingredients are the same, the bottle is the same and its all latex free
and come on now, its an enema so its not like there are a lot of different styles and types to choose from. Even though I use these for a slightly different reason than most, I can say that they are easy to use, have never had any defects in regards to the bottles or seams breaking or cracking when in use. The triple pack can be found in the health section of your local Rite Aid store or online for about $2.00, less in some areas, more in others.
As always, thanks for the read!
