Oh Goody! An exciting review about "Band-Aids" is on the way!
While Band-Aid is actually a brand name of this type of adhesive bandage, this is what most of us no doubt call them whether we purchase the generic version or the real thing. I'm personally a big fan of generic drugs and medical supplies as I'd rather not pay for fancy packaging when it comes to things like this. So for the inevitable minor cuts and scrapes that the members of my family require a Band-Aid for, I've stocked up on these Rite Aid Sheer Bandages, Assorted as you never know when you'll need one. My 6 year old can "suffer" greatly from the teeniest of scratches, so placing a Band-Aid on his "boo boos" always makes him feel better. Of course I'm sure he'd rather have the cute cartoon character bandages, but I'm a mean mommy and rarely pay 10 prices for them when the simple generic version will do just as well. Read on to find out more about a staple first-aid product that no fully stocked medicine cabinet should be without.
~~~The Bandages~~~
These Rite Aid Sheer Bandages, Assorted are about as simple and functional as Band-Aids come. According to product advertising, they are sterile with a non-stick pad. Highly absorbent, non-stick pad promotes drainage and easy removal. Long-lasting adhesive helps bandage adhere, to keep cuts clean. Multi-purpose protection for cuts, scrapes and minor wounds. 80 Assorted: 10 - 1" (25mm). 30 - 3/4" (19mm). 40 - 5/8" (16mm). Each bandage comes individually wrapped for sterility and are all latex free, so those with latex allergies need not worry about a skin reaction. Choose the correct size for the wound you plan to cover and then apply carefully by not touching the white absorbent pad section with your fingers. Best for dressing minor cuts, scrapes, and scratches, these bandages are about as basic as they get in wound care supplies. Each bandage has a slight amount of stretch to it, so using them on places like the hands and fingers can be a bit more comfortable. They are "flesh colored" to blend in with the skin of a light skinned person, so their appearance will be much more noticeable on a darker skinned person. Place a small dab of antibiotic ointment on the wound as needed prior to applying the bandage to help prevent infection. Then cover with one of these Rite Aid Sheer Bandages, Assorted and you are good to go.
~~~Packaging, Price, & Availability~~~
Purchase this 80 count box of Rite Aid Sheer Bandages, Assorted online at drugstore.com for just $2.89. That's less than 4 cents per bandage, so you can't get much cheaper than that. Buy these at your local Rite Aid drugstore as well. We don't have one locally, so that's why I purchase them online. The cardboard box comes with three different sizes, although there are very few of the larger ones and way too many of the smaller ones. But in a pinch, you can use two of the smaller ones to cover a larger wound when the biggest size is gone first. Compare the sizes by turning each individual bandage wrapper over as the back is clear of any writing. The middle size seems to be closest to what the standard Band-Aid comes in, so you can go up or down as needed depending on the wound size. ~~~Product Experience~~~
The directions for use are as follows on each box of these Rite Aid Sheer Bandages, Assorted: For optimal results, apply bandage to clean, dry skin. Change dressing daily, when we or more often if needed. Sterility guaranteed unless individual envelope has been opened or damaged. While I end up using alot of these on my active 6 year old son, I actually use many more on myself. No, I'm not particularly clumsy, but I've apparently not found the perfect pair of running shoes yet. I often have to place bandages on certain toes when exercising or the toenail of an adjacent toe will cut right into it's neighbor if I don't keep them trimmed down just so. If I don't, I get a bloody sock and tender toes when I forget! Ouch. My toes can get very sweaty when I'm exercising, so these bandages will occasionally slide off. But usually, if I apply them to dry skin rather tightly, the adhesive strip section clings just as it should. So this little precaution is all I need for happier toes while running. While applying one of these Rite Aid Sheer Bandages, Assorted to a minor cut, scratch, or scrape helps keep it clean and less likely to become infected, they can also actually prevent wounds in my case at the same time.
~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
Where can you find a Band-Aid when you actually need one?? I'd rather not run out if I can help it, so purchasing these Rite Aid Sheer Bandages, Assorted assures me that I'll have plenty on hand for a long time to come. They are easy to both apply and then remove as the adhesive tape sections aren't overly sticky. Get it wet, however, and it'll most likely peel off and you'll need a new one. There's really nothing special about this generic version of Band-Aid, which makes them that much more desirable to those of us using them on our toes where no one will see them in the first place. Sometimes it's better to leave a cut open to air, but for the times when you'd rather cover a wound up and/or apply an antibiotic ointment, a simple bandage like this one is the most sanitary choice. So for the most basic of wound care supplies, these Rite Aid Sheer Bandages, Assorted are an affordable staple for the home medicine cabinet. I highly recommend generic store brands like this one and your pocketbook will thank you with the money saved over time. Good luck and stay healthy :-)
