| Amstrad's Full Review: Ritz-Carlton Dining Room |
I have found the Ritz to be one of the best restaurants in the City. The food is always good as is the service. The service is fast and polite. The waiters know when to keep their distance and when to approach. The food is continental style, the chefs experts. I tend to have dishes that require some artistry in cooking. I do not order plain steak or boiled lobster at the Ritz (though many people do) as is is a waste of the excellent cooking abilities of the chef. Some of the entries I have ordered when there include sweetbreads under glass and frogs legs. I usually have escargot (snails) as an appetizer. The deserts are also very good except that it tastes like they put liquor in their deserts. I personally prefer deserts without liquor. I like their black forest cake and it would be even better if it did not contain liquor. They also have a very extensive wine list and many different kinds of cocktails.
The atmosphere is elegant but a bit stuffy. They want you to dress for them such as not letting people in jeans in the dining room. Personally I think that quality service is diminished here when the staff starts telling the patrons how to dress or what to do.
Another negative is the valet parking service abuse. I have seen them take money to park a car and then park the car in the valet parking zone which has a ten minute limit only to come out two hours later and still see the car parked in the valet parking zone. Personally I do not think any restaurant should be allowed to have valet parking as it takes spaces away from residents.
