Good: From the moment you step into the Ritz-Carlton, you notice why this is considered a world class destination. The lobster salad (appetizer)was great and I would call this an appetizerPLUS due the amount of food you get. We both had the beef filet which was more than adequate. Their desserts were amazing but the best part of the meal was a small serving of chilled tomato soup that started off the experience. I call it tomato soup but it is more like a tomato experience. Back to the dessert. I had the pineapple and mange terrine and it was perfect. It was recommended to me and I thankfully took it. It is THE dessert to order if you fell a bit overstuffed. It is so light and fresh that it is hard to explain.
Bad: Enough of the good. You want to know what isn't great. Believe it or not but the service was sporadic. At some moments you would be the center of attention and at other times you almost felt ignored. We had to remind our waiter that we ordered some wine and we ended up not getting it until the second course. Also we mentioned we wanted the cheese course but they seemed to forget that as well. This turned out fine because we were not expecting such large portions and were quite full. I give props to the sommelier Stéphane Lacroix, he was very diligent in making sure everyone's wine glass was full and if empty asking if we would like another. I had read that some sommeliers were too full of themselves to actually do their job.
Who should go: Anybody celebrating a special event (eg. anniversary, birthday, etc.) The average age of those dining seemed to be in the late 40's to early 50's. We were by far the youngest there (30 and 27).
reservations: Since I made reservations over a month before, I cannot accurately say how far in advance you should call. However, the dining room was full so reservations are a must.
Special Notes, Tips or Menu Recommendations: I would recommend trying the tasting menu. You will get more than a few glasses of various wines that were specially chosen to go with that course.
