Rival Electric Food Slicer - Food Slicing Made Easy
Written: Mar 10, 2002 (Updated Sep 29, 2002)
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Slices Meat, Cheese, Veggies, Potatoes, and Fruit from Thin to Thick
Cons:Nothing
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend the Rival Electric Food Slicer for those who want to make life easier in the kitchen.
Slicing my cooked hams and roasts was never an easy task with a knife when each member of my family is particular about the size of their slice of meat. That problem was solved when my kids bought me the Rival Electric Food Slicer model #1101G. Now, after cooking a ham or a roast I just put the meat on the slicer and let the slicer do the work since it easily adjusts for different sizes of thickness and every one is made happy. Slicing potatoes for frying are now made easy and cooking time is reduced since they are all equally proportioned. I can now buy a block of cheese and slice it to the thickness I want.
What the Rival Electric Food Slicer Has and What It Does:
6 3/8 inch Stainless Steel Serrated Blade: This blade is your slicing blade and quickly removes for cleaning and never needs sharpening.
Thickness Regulator Knob: This knob easily adjusts for that professional deli-style cut slicing from wafer thin to extra thick.
Food Tray: This locks securely on the track to guide your food along for slicing. (Depending on the size of your food you may have to cut it in large chunks.) It also has a thumb guard for safety protection while adding a steady controlled grip while sliding the food tray.
Examples of Food to Slice: Boneless roasts, boneless hams, cheese, lunch meats, bulk bacon, cheese, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, eggplant, oranges, grapefruit, cantaloupes, honeydew melons, cored apples, fresh pineapple, and bread.
How to Use It: Put your blade and food tray on the unit. Place something under the unit to catch the food as it slices such as a plate, foil, or waxed paper. Plug it in. Pull the food tray towards you away from blade. Place the food on the food tray. Set your desired thickness with the thickness knob (you will see the blade moving wider or thinner). Turn the unit on. Grasp the food grip and start sliding your food with steady, even pressure towards the blade. Move food tray back from blade and slide again. You can adjust your thickness knob after every slice if you desire.
Cleaning After Use: All slicing parts remove for cleaning. The food tray, thickness guide and food grip can be placed in your top rack of your dishwasher, however the blade must be hand washed. The motor can be removed with a screwdriver or a dime, however I have never removed it and have just cleaned the remaining parts with a sponge and detergent. Estimated cleaning time for entire unit is 7 minutes.
I have had the Rival Electric Food Slicer for 4 years now and have not had any problems with it. I primarily use it for slicing meats and potatoes.
It comes with a one-year warranty.
