susidee34's Full Review: Holmes Products AOR118-U Air Purifier
Our family has become split, smokers vs. non-smokers. What the hey, they have other bad habits I don’t indulge in, so I’ll stick with this vice thank you. However, out of respect to them, I took along our room air purifier on my last trip home to assuage all those ‘looks’ we smokers got everything we lit up. To be fair, my mother also has some breathing problems so I wanted to make it easier on her as well. It wasn’t all about those naysayer who, by the way, are mostly all prior smokers. Talk about sanctimonious!
This unit, the Holmes Products AOR118-U Air Purifier, is designed for usage in a medium sized room. It is not a whole house system but it is easily portable from one location to another. It measures 8” x 6” x 10” and weighs 3 pounds.
I did keep the original packing box just so I could safely transport it from one state to another inside its Styrofoam surroundings. It comes with an Arm & Hammer enhanced filter to help remove general household odors but also has an ionizer for particle removal. It has two levels, high and low. It also has the option to use the ionizer or not with the flip of a switch.
Some assembly required: When purchased you have to install the two filters that are included in the package. This requires simply slipping open the portal for the filter and dropping it into place. After that your next chore is to find an available electrical source, plug it in, and turn it on.
Did it work? The first person I asked was my mom. Although she would never say anything directly to me, but would rather rely on dropped comments, she said she could smell no cigarette odor at all. My aunt, prior smoker and now sanctimonious, reluctantly admitted it was working. My brother, prior smoker who still joneses after my smoke, said he didn’t catch a whiff, darn it. Even my sis-in-law, who complains about everything smoke related, had to say it was working well. We had the addition of 3 new smokers to the house so you can’t exactly say the machine didn’t have its work cut out for it.
At home we keep the unit in our computer room. It is the one room in our home with the least ventilation and the one we spend over 50% of our time in. Of course we should vacate the room when we want to smoke but it is our home. Hopefully our computers will forgive us, as well as our pets. I have noticed an immediate relief from smoke odor in the room with the unit in place. Visitors to our home have noticed the change as well [even though some of them are closet smokers].
This unit carries a one year warranty. Replacement filters are readily available at most big box stores and hardware stores, as well as online at www.homesproducts.com. This is the second Holmes product we have purchased. Our room humidifier has lasted over 6 years with no problems and does the job well. I’m sure we will be just as pleased with the life cycle of this air purifier system.
